Right, i will admit it, i'm stumped.

Turbocharger or Supercharger is now my dilemma (thanks Ben :P). I am still after and engine at this time, one suitably equipped, ie complete, for this build.

I have just been offered an R reg 3 door, 85k miles, good runner for 400 quid, so if i go for that i have a whole car minus bumpers and interior, but a runnig engine and gearbox and all ancillaries, so a good start.

Just cleared the use of my conservatory (with the boss) to strip this engine, and rebuild it to a spec still to be confirmed (decided!).

All i can do is keep trawling forums etc for peoples experiences etc, so then hopefully make my mind up.

Admittedly initially i was looking at around 280-300 supercharged, so could deffo run a lot of standard parts, but now turbo'd 350 bhp seems more attractive.......

82mm i found out.

Strip has started...

IMG_0378.jpgLooks like the chains had been done on this engine. a lot of red gasket shit around the chain covers, but the tensioner was broken.

2 of the bores have marks on them that i can just feel with my nail, dont think they are an issue and hopefully a bore and 82mm pistons will sort that out.

nah stick some 263's in there to help low down torque and grunt mate :)

Really? What makes should i look at?, other than the premium priced ones like schrick, i'm trying to do this on a budget, thats why i was thinking of keeping the standard ones, as they have been said to be ok for superchargers :).

well ran my first one on standard ones and the 2nd one with Schimmel 263 and it felt much more lively low down and they defo compliment the charger well - as Jake says can go even lower/lairier but its up to you mate !! standards arent a bad cam tbh just if your taking it all apart anyway it would seem rude not to stick some cams in there ;) ;) look for Dougherty racing / Kent ones or a 2nd hand set for cheapness

Why not keep the standard cams and just upgrade as an when?

Good work though mate! Was nice to meet you today' date=' and your mint white vr. ;-)

Good shout mate thanks, was nice to meet you too, and you certainy know your way around a car :).

Yeah it's quite clear that a correct choice of aftermarket cam will wake the car up :), i think i'll do what paul said, and change them at a later date (probably when i'm turboing it lol), if i can just get this engine running sweet and strong, it'll do for this low boost charger i get, whatever it may be! :)
