Burgundy VR6 - Project Colour Code!!

Recommended Posts

Turned 21, thought "Lets get rid of the MK3 8v GTi and treat myself to a VR6!" after some searching I stumbled upon a cheap VR6 with slight rear damage, unfortunately it had been declared a CAT C write off. I figured i would go take a look anyways as i wanted to do a conversion into a Mk2 at some stage. Turned out the damage wasn't as bad as i first thought, Channel Island garage charges are stupidly high, this being an old car, meant it wasn't feasable for the insurance company to fix it! It was bought back of the insurance and in the end, it ended up in my hands. I'm hoping to restore it to it's former glorey (h)

Any way here is when i picked her up!

Looking a little worse for wear, expansion tank look like it exploeded! I've checked it over and it's all fine now thankfully.

Okay 1st thing i did was to give it some lows and painted the badges white!

SPAX PSX kit 60mm drop all round:

Can you see the size difference?

Sitting on it's new suspension with the badges white:

Next i decided that i didn't like the orangey in the lights and that i wanted either just clear or red! This will hopefully sick with my theme

New side repeaters:

Black bumpers annoyed the sh!t out of me, so i did a test to see if i could/would like a colour coded car!

I did use etch primer as i was too cheap to buy plastic primer but this is only a trial and i know it will/has started to peel and crack

Didn't like the black bumper and arch trim colour, but i liked the look and texture. So instead of going down the dearch route. I decided to give it a colour code myself i had previously done the grille (which was the 1st thing i sprayed) and it came out okay, then i did the spoiler which also came out okay.

Bit the bullet and £50 later i had:

couple of sheets of 400 grit paper

2 1/2 cans of made up paint to match the paintwork (spot on match as well!)

2 BIG rolls of masking tape

3 whole news papers lol

Well it started off by being masked and then lightly sanded to remove any small imperfections. didn't take the trim off as this will be happening when i tackle the arch work which i'm hoping is fine!!

After that it was then completely covered with news paper, primered and sprayed

I was very happy with the result and this is how it came out :)

Yes the car does sit that low, it does scrape and i do need to higher it lol

Also picked up genuine VR6 splitter off my old GTi :)

Right here is my latest project I've taken on:

Bought these wheels with almost two brand new tyres on, one crappy one and one with out!

What they looked like (Rather corroded!)

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/14082010135.jpg

Sent them off to be sand blasted £25 per wheel. Declined the option to have them primered for an extra £40. They came back primered for free!!!

Centre caps before and after:

Here's my progress so far:

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/01092010151.jpg

Pics of the wheels on...not great pics but you get the idea..

Will get some better ones soon after a good clean and polish

That's it for now :)

hey mate just wondering if u used the adaptor piece to mount the bmc? i think i've got an 89mm hose somewhere' date=' maybe smaller, i know it fits around the outlet on the bmc but how wides the housing just before the MAF? 83?

[/quote']

I used an 83mm silicone hose coupler from www.siliconhoses.com. The BMC side is 85mm and the engine side is a tad smaller..

Well over the weekend, i decided to joey up my headlights.

Seeing as black doesn't tie in with my colour scheme, i did this...

Here is my latest little adventure.

A few reasons for the strip out.

I need to replace the headlining as it is sagging

Need to rewire all speakers to an Amp.

Need to get the drivers side rear arch looked at as there is a small fold!

Want to check for rust or and evidence of a water leak.

Also it could do with a real tidy up!!

Mess!

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010187.jpg

Rear seats out

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010186.jpg

Door cards and rear carpet

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010189.jpg

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010188.jpg

All carpets up and sound deadening

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010191.jpg

Side view

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010190.jpg

All the sh!t i've removed..

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010192.jpg

Carpets cleaned and put back in. Also head unit wires have been tidied up.

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010193.jpg

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/16102010194.jpg

That's how it stands at the moment as it was too blooming cold to do any more!

Not much in terms of updates for this Channel Island based VR.

Will be heading off to JKM to get it on the rollers with fellow members from GolfGTI.co.uk

Been trying out different lights as i'm not a fan of the M3 styled ones anymore.

Decided to get hold of some CL rear lights, here is my take on them! :D

Out come so far:

Before:

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/17012011220.jpg

After:

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/18012011220.jpg

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/18012011221.jpg

http://i589.photobucket.com/albums/ss334/wherry112/18012011222.jpg

Ended up tintin all the red to try match it up as the indicator was darker. Masked off where the reversing lights are so they will stay white

Camera flash makes them look weird, but i can assure you they look spot on! (H)
