Saunders82 0
I'm racking my brains at the moment. I'm not sure wether to get a second car to run around in the winter or not. My golf dispite got a mountain of new parts in the last 6 months. Still likes to kick me in the nuts almost on a monthly basis last week it was a rear wheel bearing which led to a stub axle rear discs pads and both wheel bearings. Month before that the heater matrix pipe blew out and one of my bbs poped a split rim screw. Im not doing mega miles or thrashing it much either. So I was leaning towards getting a second car something with abit of character but slow and cheap. But I'm having having issues with the cost. I have no garage so not leaving the vr6 uninsured isn't a option. So including tax a £500 banger and the insurense looking at least a £1000. Just want to know peoples experiences of running 2 cars compared to one car which you know will be expensive to run.Sorry to waffle on
craggsy 91
I did run 2 cars...the VR6 and a 02 plate 20v toledo cheap to insure.....just got fed up walking by the VR6 most days to go work in the toledo. So sold toledo and just ran the VR6 until 10 weeks ago when i started breaking it up
Nero Mk 2 8
I run a S3 and golf gti but at time have had 4 on the go at once. just got a bittired of handing out road tax and mot's every other month. Both the Golf and the S3 are mot'd till october and taxed till christmas so 2 times a year i take a hit but worth it for the fun, when im a bit poor, i run the gti as its cheaper on petrol, when i want white knuckles i drive the S3.The golf is insured as a 2nd car and comes to 122 a year to insure!! Special K 81 0
£1000 to insure 2nd car!?!?....are you mad!???what you got in mind a porsche?? Iv had a cuple of cars and own bikes...shop around for insurance. What you have got to realise,i appreciate what your saying with the golf, a 2nd car can also mean twice the maintanence problems. Plenty of cars out there for under 500 quid if your willing to look. good luck
bungy 2
Just buy something cheap and middle of the road. That way when you come to drive your VR it is more of a treat. My second car is a diesel A6 avante and I have a friend with a beautiful black 911. He drives a fiesta as a daily.
VR6Gill 1
I have a 911 and a VR as my everyday toy however I still prefer to drive the VR on the weekends and insurance for both is just under £1k
VR6Nat 9
I drive a 1.6 mk2 golf as my daily, i picked that up for £500 and it costs £23 a month to insure Not drivin the vr to work every day saves me about £50 a month as i can make one tank in the mk2 last all month!! so it works out about £25 a month cheaper to run 2 cars, plus the vr isnt racking up miles or getting more wear n tear on it so saving money in the long run there too..Def worth thinking of doing IMO. :)

donpulsar 0
My VR6 is my 2nd car....I'd recommend something with LPG (which the VR will be running soon!) Hi-Octane, nice & cheap & the cost of an install can be paid back in a year or so (depending on mileage). My last 2nd car was a Subaru Legacy 2.2 - gas conversion paid for itself in no time and at 59p/litre it makes sense if you do more than just pootle to the shops n'back!Got the conversion lined up for the VR at Profess Autogas in S.Wales for £1100 all in.Oh, my first car/toy is a Nissan Pulsar GTiR (380bhp, 325lb/ft, 1/4 in 11.9) so I figured I needed something slightly cheaper than that to run! :-d
soul-2-soul 3
My other car is MKII 16v Golf with a 2ltr ABF engine in it. I use it more than the VR as is cheaper to run & I am less fussy about where I park it etc. Want to sell it soon & get a MK4 TDI as my run around. Did not plan on having two cars but now I have for the last 1.5 years think it's worth it if you can afford it.
editionmatt 1
i am thinking of getting a mk2 golf as second car as hopefully if i get a placement i shall be starting a mechanics apprenticeship soon. unfortunately will havve to take te vr off the road tho, insuranc for me on a driver is about 350 fully comp which for a 21 year old isnt to bad. just a struggle getting a nice one for the money. mk2's are soooo expensive!! Saunders82 0
Well been talking to my girlfriend alot now gonna keep on with just the golf by it's self for abit longer, until she starts learning to drive again. I'm only doing 300 to 400 ish miles a month at the moment so it doesn't seem like the smartest move money wise just yet if I was doing more miles then defintly. Just hoping for some trouble free weeks really!! it was more the comment of walking past the car every morning that has made me stop looking !!
