goonersteve 0
You know I would use you mate, as have done previously for several things and would def recommend you to anyone i know Do you reckon there would be enough regular work like this though? If there is, then I would say definately go for it. I guess you just need to make sure you have a plan B for if / when the work does dry up a bit.
rodney 17
I would use ya'.....But.... Here is a business plan angle.... Specialising is great and is needed in any market place. However, why limit yourself to a car that is an ever decreasing market? Yes when you get later in life and there are 4 in the world kinda thing.... So May I suggest all VR6 type derivatives otherwise you are limiting yourself and your market place and thus earning potential.Hope it HelpsR
nivag27 5
I would Tony and I do agree with rodn also it would be good to have some kind of insurance type thing just in case something went wrong, just an idea.
Jamesr_VR6 0
The only problem you will have from what i see is reputationits fine for the guys here who know you and will pay you to work on their cars, and word of mouth from these guys will spread through the VR6 world and bring in more work from outsiders.but to me it still seems a limited market, i know you siad you would work on other models/makes but classing yourself as a specialist upfront will detere alot of people, i.e. a saab specialist will do other models but a bmw owner wouldnt actively seek a saab specialist?so a forethought would be to market your self as a "specialist mechanic" thus including all models/makesbroader market, broader earningsprofessional website, case studies of previous clients, professional attitude to potential clientsBest of luck buddy, wish i could do something on me own! UnitedMotorsport 55
You need to think seriously about this.Ask your self how much money you will have to earn a month/week/day before you can even afford to eat, Public liability insurance is a MUST.Working for your self isnt as easy as the sucessful people make it look. Rayhoop 0
You need to think seriously about this.Ask your self how much money you will have to earn a month/week/day before you can even afford to eat' date=' Public liability insurance is a MUST.Working for your self isnt as easy as the sucessful people make it look.[/quote']I second that. With regards to using your services - I would consider using you. I dont know you myself, but you seem to have a lot of experience with the VR6 and mechanics in general. However - as an enthusiast - I tend to do a lot of my work myself... I only really use a mechanic when I dont have the time to do something... and even then, only when there is an urgency in getting it done. Otherwise, my VR6 is my 'toy' hence there is not usually a rush to get it fixed. And also, cost is something that would help me decide whether I get it done, or just find time later.Im not trying to put a downer on you buddy, but just highlighting another aspect/restriction of specialist mechanic work.If the car is used as a daily drive, there will be more demand to get the work done asap. So for other Vr6 drivers, you could be a time/job/life saver. In an effort to help you find your feet --->Have you considered putting some effort into trying to secure general mobile mechanic contracts with local minicab firms, couriers & used car forecourts?Or even track day support services?Make sure you do calculate how much money you need to be able to cover all of your living costs + savings/pension. Then work out how much you need to earn every day (gross), and then cost up your labour rate. One thing many people forget, especially when doing work for people they know. You are running a business, not a chariety. So make sure it is worth your while! All the best buddy. If you put your mind to it, you'll do fine.
AJmk2 2
Definitely would be good to have a list of prices for basic services. Could also be worth practicing welding as always a few exhaust jobs im sure you could do for people.

b19drg 0
you dont want to many words in a name , as you can always add a tag line underneath , then when you get massive and have a string of people working for you , you can diversify with out changing your name , so something like TW auto or TW automotive , then on the van and company paperwork buisness cards etc you can add a ltag line underneath something like "your one stop mobile auto solution"

bungy 2
First thing to do now Tony is to contact the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) who can help and advise on a lot of issues and give you the legal cover you will need. It also has a crest that looks good on your cards and paperwork. They can also offer deals for a card machine as in this day and age the ability to pay by card is a must.
