  1. refurbing wheels yourself is a pita... takes ages
  2. Hi Rack - just a question out of curiosity really... I've heard from others (and a lil from this thread) that there are treatments to counter act the side effects of the steroids. Out of curiosity - how many different treatments/medicines/chemicals do you tend to need to try and keep your body in balance during your course? Is it tricky knowing what is worth taking/avoiding... and do you find the number of 'things' you have to take ends up increasing ten fold? Im not taking dig at you, Im just curious. It is a world I know very little about. Me personally - Im not interested and have no need
  3. are they 56mm face and 55mm back/inner diameter? Im looking for a set too, but cannot justify paying £40 for orignial BBS caps, when my car is not exactly mint! Im looking to buy some generic caps, which are advertised as 56mm face and 55mm rear... but wondering if they will fit?? Any idea?
  4. I used my original wishbones - but used a press to push out the old bushes and press in the new ones. Tie rods/ball joints. I went with GSF parts, but recently replaced my tie rods with VAG parts as it didnt get through an MOT (later found to be the an issue with the track rod inner joint, or steering rack)... but side to side comparison, the VAG tie-rods look better put together. I picked up my powerflex bushes from Awesome, as they had the best price on-line after VAT/delivery was taken into account.
  5. Hi all, My VR failed its MOT recently, one issue was identified as "excessive play in off side steering tie rod end" I replace the tie rods with VAG parts, but the play is still there (same amount), the steering arm appears to move in line with the 'play'. However the near side steering arm/wheel is still during the test.... so it appears either the inner joint on the steering arm has play, or the rack is knackered. Any ideas how much work is required to change the inner steering arm joint?
  6. when wrapping manifolds, are supposed to leave an inch gap unwrapped between the mounting to the head and the pipes... apparently to prevent any stray oil soaking onto the wrap and presenting a fire hazard?
  7. another catch 22 - if so many people didnt fraudulently claim, drive without insurance, or simply have accidents through careless/dangerous driving... then everyone elses insurance would not be so expensive!
  8. Well my budget wont stretch to some track day front pads for now, so we serviced the brakes on the weekend. Greased the calliper slider pins, and the the pads (not the pad material!) so they move freely on the calliper carrier. Flushed the brake fluid and replaced with 5.1 fluid. Beld the system - all good. Discs and pads all round are standard but look healthy (rears are new, fronts are older but plenty of meat and worn evenly). Brake lines are all good, but we replaced the rears with braided items regardless. Fronts were stubborn so left them as they are for now (until we have more time,
  9. Mine is a 97 plate OBD2, so it has the 288s and Im guessing the bigger pads. I dont want to go for bigger brakes, as I want to retain my solitudes and keep the oem look, so was just wondering whether a pad upgrade is worth it, I might just try to find some EBC Yellow stuff pads for now.
  10. pretty much answered in the thread: http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?384230 However, has anyone had any track experience on standard pads? Was there any serious brake fad etc?
  11. Who has run their VR on standard brake pads during a track day? Was it an issue? How much is there to gain between standard pads and EBC Yellows, and Ferrodo DS2500s? My front discs/pads are nice and meaty - but they are standard items. Brake hoses will be braided goodridge hoses Fluid will be new dot 5.1 Just wondering whether there is much to gain from spending £200 on brembo grooved discs from GnS + DS2500s.... Or just getting a set of EBC Yellows to use with my current discs?
  12. they've never asked in the past when I've swapped lumps. Do update the V5 with the engine number and CC - best to keep it straight.
  13. You just update the V5 document with the new engine number. If your looking for some peace of mind for yourself, you can get a decent garage to check it is not going to fall out.
  14. yup - I went for the Beru part. I didnt have time to wait for a original VW part to come in, so I just bought it from GNS... only to find the coil pack was not the only problem... so I couldnt use the car today anyways :0(
  15. For info - I took a look at both parts at GNS. The cheaper one is visibly cheaper... metal material/casting is rougher pins on plug are not rounded to avoid catching/bending, and the pins were not quite lined up. pastic casing had holes that ran through the item - where as the Beru item was all sealed.
