im sick of reading the paper and seeing the most terrible and violent crimes going unpunished. we all watch road wars n such and there allways showing a crazy high speed chase and dangerous driving and then at the end of program, lists the punishments given and im amazed at so few actually get done for their crime. also i am a real hater of cones on the road when there are no people around and the law still leaves the cameras on. no need for it,other than to steal monies from decent people, nearly theft in my eyes. setting up a trap !!!! if theres no one about then drive to the conditions = dry roads,no traffic around, late at night, uprated vehicle. i would pay for a good lawyer, turn every stone , ask for every cameras dated calibration results on that road, im not just saying .go for it and hope, im saying life is hard enough. nasty violent crimes are not being punished in this country anymore. im saying a decent person doing (in my eyes a small misdermeaner) should try and have a piece of that too. famous people can murder another person and a good lawyer can get them off scott free, why cant you ?

if money is tight ,go to citizens advice, they help you for free and have some very clever people working for them.

its really not sounding good, especially getting cought by a camera! i got caught a couple of weeks ago by a copper (not traffic, thankfully!) being really silly! (wont post up full details on an open forum) but basically i was doing what vr's are capable of doing by the book on a dual carrigeway.

but coppers arent as robotic as cameras, and as soon as he found out i had a decent job, and worked with planes that he loved!:-# he just gave me a severe talking to, gave me my keys back and let me go. tbh its probably the first decent copper ive ever met! after the stern warning he was chatty and seemed quite sound.

best thing to do is expect the worse, show loads of remorse and things might swing your way!

you will get a ban . lube up and take whats coming

althought you already no that :)

a good brief may save your licence , but i doubt it.

courts look very dimly at the mo at speeding through roadworks, the problem is that you were 47mph over a posted speed limit .

now

you can of course check that all the signs were correct, i.e size, spacing etc.. you also have to apply for tempory speed limits :)

if they havent you can get it overturned ... :)

i dont work with traffic managment on a daily basis, and none of what i said has any basis .

My lawyer is 2nd to NONE, but he wouldn't take a case like this where you have already admited the offence. Even if you didnt admit it, the evidence is stacked against you.

If you did it, take whats coming to you, dont try and wriggle out of it.

Even if there is a technicality, you were still doing 97mph on a road that is normally limited to 70mph, thats still speeding!

Speeding is normally heard in the majestrates court, with no leverage from you to be able to elevate it to the crown. If you stand up in majestrates and plead not guilty, and they find you guilty (which they will) You will get more of a hefty sentance.

The courts might decide that doing ~200% the speed limit is dangerous driving, which can be heard in crown court, which holds higher penalties than majestrates.

What exactly did you get through the post? Was it a letter asking who was driving the car on a specific date? Or was it a letter giving you the oppurtunity to plead guilty to an offence by post?

If it is the latter, take your dads advice, and dont worry too much. :)

I speak with experience of how the courts and police deal with things like this.

As said before, i know somebody who has got away with a fine due to calibration dates on the camera itself, but its swings and roundabouts, if the camera is fine they may look at you as a compete snake whos trying to get out of things and punish you. Everyone has their different experiences but even though the law is the same, it all depends on the place, and the moods of everybody in charge of the case. Anyways good luck and chin up! :)

calibration on cameras dont work no more, what matthas said is correct.

i can however tell you for a fact that the spacing between the main sign and the repeaters must be at 350m spaced either side of the road, your only hope should you wish to beat it , would be to run the road again and check all the sign spacing and sozes and hope that they are wrong .. were they average speed specs ? if so it must say average speed limit , not speed limit 50mph. is it a permenant closure ? i can give you lots of avice on traffic managment but my best advice is to SIGN THE FORM and return it.DONT FIGHT IT and LEARN the mistake

There is a web site that has lots of very useful information and technical loop holes in the law. You might be able to use some of this info to get out of your problem.

The website www.tpuc.org

You might have to search through the info to find what you want but there is definitely some info about speeding offenses.

Good luck!

avent read all the thread due to lack of time....but i have been told and even known people to not reply to the initial letter you get sent saying you have been caught. As they dont seem to chase it up if you dont...maybe lack of resources because they fine soooo many...

The cases i have known about haven't received anything since.

Hmm i cant sign this anon can i!?! lol
