acf8181 0
i think i've heard someone say that stealth do it for £600.parts cost £100 or £200 (ecp or vw - same parts tho)thing is tho, if they get the box out and find the clutch is almost dead you'd be stupid not to change that whilst there (cause you have to take the box out again to do it later)...though clutchs are only £80 from vw. Macca 1
Has anyone ever had their timing chains break on here?
Eat this 2
iv only ever heard of 1 breaking the main problem is the tensioner wears and the chain skips a tooth which chews the top end of the engine up again andrew (acf) knows more lol
acf8181 0
Has anyone ever had their timing chains break on here?not mine, but a mates highline just had the bottom chain snap. it was a '96 so had a double top chain, which is what usually causes prob as it wears the top runner too quickly (they changed to single chain in '97)...but, it wasn't anything to do with that (although the top runner was worn badly)...its just been pulled apart this week, and the bottom tensioner had failed and disintigrated, so the chain was running on the studs that hold the runner and they eventually snapped a link of the chain. was very lucky, only got 4 bent valves, could have been worse. it was on 108k by the way, and had full vw service history.
