VR6-DUB 3
Hi Peepsokay first of all forgive me if this topic has been covered before but have had no joy looking for it on the website. My car is on about 89000 miles, standard with drilled airbox and milltek cat back exhaust system, if this makes any difference to my question.Money no object what is the best engine oil to get for my vr6, people that have used certain oils please post em down with reasons why it is good or why it wasn't a good oil to use. Also my car has a little rattle when started from cold. Thanks Team
spadam 7
Do a search m8 been covered loads. Most of lads on here use fushs or synta silver 10w 40 semi sythetic as this is what vw recomend. 5l from tps is around £13. Slight rattle when cold could possibly be chains if its coming from the gearbox side of engine.
VR6-DUB 3
Spadam - if i am looking at the engine bay area from the front of the car (when bonnet is open), is gearbox side left or right?

VR6-DUB 3
Thanx Rikki, what engine oil do you use?
gavinvr6 0
rattle from cold could just be oil draining out of the top end leaving it dry, especially if standing for long periods or if a slightly thinner oil is used it will drain down easier.for your own sake dont use cheap oil. your engine wont appreciate it at all. although they are hard wearing engines they need to be treated with respect
Lukey. 381
another vote for synta silver.Normal nothing to bother about sound for chains when starting would be a light ticking which would pretty much go when the oil gets warm and distributed. Youd know if it was proper chain rattle it sounds like a jar of nails being shaken up

VR6-DUB 3
Luke do you use synta silver? Is that the full name of the oil, where can it be bought from? Whats the correct one to use i.e. 10w 40 15w 40 etc?
vr6stormt 0
the full name is quantum synta silver i use a 5w.40w by quantum but its a bit thin but can get the above from vw or tps
Lukey. 381
yes i use quantum synta silver, its only available in 10w40 so if you ask for synta silver you get the right oil. get it from a TPS or quite a few vw dealers, ask for discount youll usually get it. My last oil and filter change cost £16 for 10l oil, vw filter, sump washer and seal.I found that thinner oils just get burnt off quite quickly, this stuff my engine doesnt burn a drop
spadam 7
Yea shud of mentioned if it were chains it would be loud and most noticable at 1200rpm.
