Geastb 0
I currently have a OBD1 2.8 if i get hold of a OBD1 2.9 of the same year - will it drop straight in and be able to use the same ECU/wiring loom? ?!
acf8181 0
i suspect you'd have to swap ecu's as well, and maybe use the 2.8 coilpack setup (presuming your 2.8 is coilpack)...but apart from that i reckon it'll be straight in using the same wiring. but as i've never done this myself consider this just as an educated guess. antera309 3
You will need to swap in the ECU and throttle body from the 2.9, but that's about it as long as both your engine and the 2.9 are both coilpack type.
Geastb 0
Mine is a dizzy set-up - are all 2.9 coilpacks? I was assuming that same year engines means same year ignition system!?
shail 0
I thoiugh that all 2.9VR6 engines run on a dizzy.
acf8181 0
yep...most 2.9's are dizzy, only the very very earliest 2.8's are dizzy tho....but that makes it easier.
Geastb 0
The one i was looking at was a K reg so 1992/3? same as mine - so in theory all i would need is the ECU? I would assume it would come with the bigger throttle body but if it didn't I have got a 2.8 throttle body that has been enlarged - would this work?
shail 0
ive got a 2.9l in my golf. but i used my existing (2.8l OBD2) loom, throttle boddy. As you car already has a dizzyi would have assumed that a 1993 2.9 would slot straight in without the need to change the loom or TB
acf8181 0
its only '92 k's that are dizzy i think, but i think 'rados were dizzy till a lot later. my '93 k plate is coilpack anyway. its not a biggy to swap them anyway.
andy 0
my 94 rado is coilpack if that helps
