SankysVR6 1 Posted January 7, 2005 Report Share Posted January 7, 2005 Just deviate slightly (Eat This) how come you VIN plate is missing I've noticed a few VR's on here with it missing even binliner's was missing and mine is also missing. I enquired at VW to get a replacement one but I had to get a form and take it to the Police to have it filled out which I haven't got round to yet. Link to post Share on other sites

cliveyp 0 Posted January 7, 2005 Report Share Posted January 7, 2005 I did my Corrado one myself, very similar to Justins first attempt. Still took a fair bit of work though! I ran though various grades of aluminium oxide paper, then onto various grades of wet and dry, anding with 1500 grit. Then gave it a good buff up with the Autosol. Took about 60 hours i reckon, with it fitted to the car.Needless to say, it's highly unlikely that i'll be doing this one myself. I was going to, but it looks like we have found a reasonably priced polisher to do it instead! Link to post Share on other sites

binliner 0 Posted January 7, 2005 Report Share Posted January 7, 2005 theres different ways of polishing it... wet n dry paper or mops on a drill or bench grinder... but the principal is the same.Start with a coarse abrasive (60 or 80 grit) to remove the texture from the metal and then change to gradually finer grades of abrasive (ensuring you have removed all the scratches left by the last one before moving on to the next) until you get to 1500 or 2000 grit then polish it with a polishing mop or autosol.I reckon the totally polished one took me about 30 hours a bit at a time. The place thats going to finish polishing my wheels charge £30 an hour but obviously work a lot quicker than me! Link to post Share on other sites

pete8tch 0 Posted January 9, 2005 Report Share Posted January 9, 2005 the easiest way is to buy a bench grinder, b+q do 1 for about £20 and buy a polishing kit which is 2 or 3 different mops and soaps with a mandrel to convert 1 end . i have had 1 for years and have done loads of bike bits , heels swing arms footpegs etc, you can use smaller, mops and shapes to get into difficult bits, its not that hard and loads better than by hand.
