Air flow tube gauze. Is removal ok?

Recommended Posts

I removed the K&N cone from my new VR today to clean and oil it. In doing so I noticed the circular gauze at the end of the airflow tube, just where the filter jubilee clip juntion was. Now, the VR I had prior to this new VR also had the K&N cone filter, and I am sure that when I cleaned and oiled that one I can't remember the gauze being there. This got me thinking!! The old VR filter sucked in much more agressively on the throttle than the new motor. Throttle response was also quicker. I just wondered if the gauze being removed could be a factor in this? I read on here that the gauze pushes out, but wondered if anyone knew if it was ok to run with it removed? If so, I might try it. Thanks
