magic_tree 0
I removed the K&N cone from my new VR today to clean and oil it. In doing so I noticed the circular gauze at the end of the airflow tube, just where the filter jubilee clip juntion was. Now, the VR I had prior to this new VR also had the K&N cone filter, and I am sure that when I cleaned and oiled that one I can't remember the gauze being there. This got me thinking!! The old VR filter sucked in much more agressively on the throttle than the new motor. Throttle response was also quicker. I just wondered if the gauze being removed could be a factor in this? I read on here that the gauze pushes out, but wondered if anyone knew if it was ok to run with it removed? If so, I might try it. Thanks

xyber 1
It's needed, it gives the incoming air a certain flow rate and straightens it, which the ECU is set up for. Removing it causes false MAF readings
Gazbarber1982 3
I've also heard the same as xyber. My old one run slightly lumpy sometimes with it removed, my current one is more responsive with it in. I'm charged and I think xyber is too.
xyber 1
I thinks I remember C2 saying it throws readings out by 10%
