spadam 7
Really losing the vr love now. Ive wanted a newer car for a while but really cant make my mind up if i should pay the prices for a newer car seems as i would have to get a loan or finance to pay for it. Just want to modify the car and not keep reapiring things as its my daily driver and cant take it of the road at all.Topped it all of yesterday when my mate was behind me in a vts and i put my foot to the floor in 3rd at 40 to around 80 (on private road) and he was on my bumper the whole way. What the hell is all that about then?
muttley 0
I can feel your frustrasion mate, My VR was killed by a pug 206 GTi last week.and it was standard
spadam 7
Yea my mates vts is standard and 03 plate and i would love to sit and think his will break down by the time he gets to the end of the road but truth is in 2 years of his ownership nothing has gone wrong with it. Dazdub 0
Its a sad day when you cant loose a VTS. Easy for me to say this because its not me so i can give you an irresponsible answer. Get a MK5 R32 like you want mate. I know finance/loan ties you in but when you get older and get house/married/kids you cant afford a nice expensive car anyway (unless youve got a really well paid job) so you may as well make the most of it while you got the chance. Shame the love is fading though mate. (u)

mike 6
losing my love too, hence why mines for sale, im also unsure about takin a loan iv seen mk4 R32's go for 8k and less on autotrader but running costs are quite high
spadam 7
and dont tell me' date=' everythin has gone wrong with the vr in that time[/quote']yep headgasket, chains, clutch etc.Would love to turbo it but really cant see the point in spending £4000 on a £2400 car. As i would never see that money again. Been looking at a few cars lately like r32 and the jap stuff like scoobys and civic type r.
gavinvr6 0
the simple facts of the matter is that vr's just dont cut it any more, smaller modern lighter cars with smaller engines are making similar power to weight figures and this is showing vr's up.im working on getting mine back on the road still but once it's up and running im going to bite the bullet and say goodbye. i know i'll regret it and i know i'll miss it because of the noise and the way it's relentless all the way to the red line but the money i've spent and the money i'll need to keep spending i can buy another car that is newer, more reliable and just as quick. it just wont have that one of a kind vr roar
bungy 2
If your car owes you no money (ie it's bought and paid for with no loans outstanding) then there are loads of options.A good one would be to buy a cheap run around and take yours off the road and take your time over what you do. Most of us do this over the winter to keep the car for all the meets in the summer. The best cars are those that evolve slowly over time. It is really easy to get a loan and buy newer but the depreciation is worse than modifying what you've already got. All depends on what you really want. Grass is always greener..... But i would love to take it off the road and renew everything and go fi
bungy 2
Modern cars are getting heavier. Airbags, aircon and all the gumph chucked into cars just saps power. Compare the weight of a mk1 golf and a mk6. Remember your car is no spring chicken. What year is yours?
b road blaster 0
also rember that anything jap and fast is gonna cost you on the insurance even a uk scoob is group 17 import 20 and tbh the uk scoob really isn't all that and if you think the vr is bad on fuel think again

spadam 7
Mines 1998 so last of the vr. Have looked at 4 motions but can never seem to find a low mileage 3 door version for sale.
Dazdub 0
Ive got a 2008 Ford S Max which im sad to say beats the VR in a straight line much to the ammusement of my missus. The thing is the S Max is lovely to drive and has so much modern technology its ridiculous. But i love getting in the Golf cause its just raw driving and simple. Plus the sound is unbeatable

Petrol on the other hand would be rather excsesice once modified.
gavinvr6 0
i've owned my car 4 yrs and spent atleast 3g's just keeping it on the road, that's just bloody daft. and as much as i would love to rebuild it over winter i just couldnt afford to run a daily and fix up the v. mines 17yrs old so is getting to old to warrant keep spending
b road blaster 0
my first scoob was a sti v3 tuned up to the hilt 420 bhp+ on the road i was getting avarage off 9-11 mpg if used hard track days ect it was down to 4 mpg the evo (v11) avarage 12 mpg best one was the gt4 st205 that was around the same as the 4mo also if you wanna start tuneing your gonna need really deep pockets the scoob cost well over 15k to get it anywhere near reliable
craggsy 91
I know the feeling.......mine will be gone soon. Mines only 13yrs old but to get it how I want will cost best part of £3k. I can't justify it now, so getting something else and breaking mine. Will get £5k from mine by breaking it
BADOIR 2
Let me know when you start to break it Craig, could well need some bits offa ya ...
rodney 17
this feeling doees pop up usually every time i see a car i want... LOLThis all comes down to finance and what you want...If you go newer you are going to spend more on insurance and tax etc... especially if you want to stay more than an electic engines number of cylinders before they are all baned...So if you can afford it and want it then hey go for the R32... Just remember unless you get one with a zorst etc etc you will only end up spending the money anyway.... and still have the loan.Yes modern cars are faster then the VR6 but you could still take your engine and do stuff with it. A lot of people buy a diesel daily shed and work on their pet late at night and over the winter...I have a 58 plate type R as my work mobile and I still enjoy the VR6.. as I cannot afford to spend the 10-15k I would want to on a car and the spec etc at the moment... so I wash, polish and save the tenners here and there for thoses days in the sun with the window down and the sound in your ears.... Always works for me... until those tenners add up enough for one of my dream cars when i dont have to fix the boiler or roof or mortgage...

xyber 1
VRs spoil you. When I was looking around for a change, very little seemed to be worth changing for.Always wanted an Escort Cosworth, but old and not that special anymore. Imprezas always failed to impress when I've driven them. Wouldn't consider anything less than 6 cylinders, even Audi B5 S4's as standard didn't cut it and needed a lot spent on them to be what I wanted.Just shows how good VR's are, especially when turbo'd or supercharged
