RS8 18"

I've decided to go for a modern twist with the exterior look of my VR, and found some very nice black gloss RS8 style rims which Im hoping to get at the end of this month. Trouble is, Ive got this perfect image in my head of what I want my car to look like, and what stance I want it to have, but I dont know whether I can pull it off. I cant decide between 17's or 18's...I havnt got coilovers yet, just springs and the car is lowered 40mm and It's sitting on some 17" porsche rims at the moment.

I know most people will say get coilovers BEFORE I get my new rims, but my car does actually need new wheels for me to carry on driving it, as the front two are pretty badly buckled, which I can only really put down to the amount of nasty potholes ive crashed into :-(

Could I get away with 18's at the moment with no coilovers? I know I may need a camber kit but just wanted to know from people's personal experiences how easy this is to do.

Well why would you wanna go for 18's...

You realise that you will loose power and handling with big shoes on there....!

I agree, 18's is a bad choice.. Iv had 17's and now im running 16's and 16's is just a much better ride and handling.

lol did you steal them off a motor in crawley then lol and to put coilovers on the mk3 golf easy as pie !! i done mine but i had to do abit more them just the coilovers doen the front wishbone bushes aswell it was long lol

Yeah that's why i cant decide between 17's or 18's. I like the look of bigger rims, but if my performance is going to suffer from it then I guess Ill have to go smaller.

The VR6 itself was never designed for 18's.

You will loose quite a bit of handling and performance, and I reckon you will constantly knock the Cambers out as well!

Aaah right ok, seems like more hassle than it's worth really then, which is a bit of a shame - Ive seen some really nice mk3's on coilovers sitting on 18's, and that was the look I wanted to go for. Ill stick to 17's, cheaper aswell lol.

yeah agree with MJ -18's are just too big and the handling of the car will suffer. I would go with 17's then you can lower it a bit more to get the stance right and adjust the camber etc

As for if you can, on a standard height VR I would think you could run 18's.

I run 17s and its ok... ideally id have gone for 16s really, im on 15s for winter at the moment and feels better than my 17s do... but 18s def too much... 40mm drop on 17s should be fine...

Should feel much more torq'ier, better handling performance etc, even round corners n r/abouts!!! 8-)

The look I wanted to go for was a like modern dub style, slammed but on big wheels with slightly rolled arches. Ive seen some very nice scirocco's and new mk6's that have inspired me.

Miss VW, have you looked under the VR Arch, and then compared it to the Scirocco n Mk4's n 5's...lol!
