ABS Light On

hey all might sound like a stupid question but i need the abs not showing for the mot next week

ive heard of blanking plates for the slot but is there any reason why we just cant cut the wires going to the light in the dash?

The ABS light should switch on when you turn the car on for a few seconds then go out, so if the garage see it not light up at all they will know that its not working. But if you're lucky they may not notice, but you can buy blanking plates too...

Daft question - why not just fix the ABS fault??? the MOT guy will see / know it has ABS and then question why the light aint there anyway!

Just get it on the VAG-COM, its probably an ABS sensor at fault, half an hour job to replace it....

Just covering up the problem isnt the solution.

spose, guy at the garage has diagnostic stuff so he can plug into and see if its the sensor thats away, i do remember when buying it now that the guy said something about a sensor, 12 quid or something like that to replace it

sensors are easy to fix and fingers crossed it will just be that, i have to 'hide' mine as its more of a problem to fix than that, but Pete's right fixing the problem is always a better solution than covering it...

just had word back from the garage and they say its the rear sensor, i asked which one and they will let me know when i pick it up lata.

does it make any difference if its near or offside? and is there any1 got 1 going spare or is it off to ebay?

just go to your local GSF or Euro car parts mate they aren't that expensive I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference if it's near or offside as long as you know it's a rear one

job done, part ordered, picking up at 4, fitting at 430, lifes grand when it goes to plan, now see if that light stays on after fitting this i aint gonna be happy lol

right prob no 2, turns out said ordered part may be incorrect. it didnt comes with the attachments, just the sensor

dont know if i should be getting the attachments as well, i expect i should but dunno

anyways that unearthed another prob when i queried it coz it turns out there were 2 rear sensors for the vr6 in 1996?

any ideas how i tell? chassis number?

gotta feeling it might the square connection coz on ebay the oval connection is for pre 1994 vw

yeah you just get the senor mate and the connector thats it. Where did u buy the sensor from ? what year is your VR ?

yeah when I replaced mine on a 95 plate it was a square connection

local auto parts, told them i was quoted 19 from another company and told them i would rather pay cash than card over phone and they matched it

its a 1996

if it wasnt so frikkn low i would jack it up and have a butchers myself but pretty sure its a square connector

yeah thats what i was thinking but all he had in bag was the sensor, no connector or cable

thats how my front abs sensor came just unbolt in and undo the clip on top and refit the new one

phoned the guy up and hes now quoting me 30 plus vat, had a swatch on euro car parts and there s a macht sensor for 14 or a vemo one for 49, hmmmm wonder which one i will pick lol

Yea as said not sided the one without loom is a front and there are differences in the rear sensors....look under your rear seat bench and you will see where they plug in, Either round or square plug.
