SHARKY 0
Hi guys...This may sound like a stoopid question, but is the handbrake light used as an indicator for any other system on the car?I know it comes on when you first put the ignition on, but recently mines started coming on whilst driving. IT flickers a bit then comes on. Sometimes it's on solid. I've not looked at the switch yet, so it's probably just that or a short in the wiring, but I thought I'd ask...Anyone any ideas? VR6Nat 9
It can be your fluid level, check the brake fluid bottle and make sure its got enough in it, or also if the float has popped out of the top.... Or could be your hand brake swtich, located under the handbrake, give your handbrake a move around and see if that makes it flicker or not.... let us know if it works or not... SHARKY 0
Thanx for the reply..I'll check the cap later - if it EVER stops raining in Bolton!!! Didn't think of that!
VR6Nat 9
no worries, im sure it will be one of those two, only other thing is an abs fault, but i would imagine your abs light would come on first... i am unfortunate enough to have both on!! bloody thing!! lol
SHARKY 0
My ABS light is on too, but I thought it was unrelated. It's been read and there's no probs with that.I think my ABS problem is a loose wire somewhere - it comes on when i go over a bump in the road. When the front end goes over a speed bump the light comes on...Sooo much fun owning a VR!
VR6Nat 9
yeah it could be, you could always check the sensors on the wheels, make sure they arent lose or something.... check the fluid level and switch first, if its not that then stick it on vag com cuz maybe the fault on the abs is intermittent so might not always show when you plug it in. VR6Pete 1,455
ABS could be the sensors - have you had it on the VAG-COM?
SHARKY 0
All the sensors have been checked recently when it was in for MOT.They're solid and they are seated in the correct place. There are no faults - there never is - which is really weird. :SThat's why I think it's a loose wire or something. Had the offside rear sensor changed twice as it said it was faulty. the problem went but now the light is on again. When read it says no fault. Stoopid ABS. I preferred the days when you just skidded!!!Gonna have a look at the brake fluid cap when I get home and I guess when it's dry I'll check the sensors AGAIN! 8o|
SHARKY 0
Had the ECU and all codes read and there'a no faults detected. Bulb problem ??? As in - not needed
VR6Pete 1,455
It will fail the MOT if you remove the bulb.it has to come on, then go off to pass.depending on the fault reader, you need to interogate the ABS ecu. has it been read since the light has been on?I had all manor of problems with ABS sensors before now, especially if they are behaving intermittently.Pete
Rikki 2
As Pete says what did you "read" the codes with?
SHARKY 0
Hi guys, The codes were read at my mate's garage with his code reader - not sure exactly what it was. Not a vagcom, but one that he uses for all cars. It's not been read when the light is actually on because it's an imtermittant problem. That's why we changed the rear sensor twice - the machine said it was an intermittant fault on it. (the second change was cos the sensor was faulty). I think I might have a loose wire somewhere with regards to the ABS, or a break in the wire. Not sure excactly how to find THAT without ripping the car apart.Going to actually change the ABS light unit itself - doubt it but it could be!!!WIth regards to the parking light... Read in the BEntley that it could be something to do with the electronic balance or something? Anyone got any ideas on what that is - think it was around chapeter 40 (?) for you guys who's got one... Going to check the switch itself and the wiring to it when I can so it could simply be a dodgy switch, just a little weird that that's started and the ABS light is being intermittant.Thanx for the comments so far gusy - they're all valued and appreciated...Keep em coming... SHARKY 0
Oh, and I know it'd fail the MOT without the light... I couldn't do that - I need to get these problems sorted as I'm looking at selling... My MOT is not for another 11 months Need to get a more practical car - looonnnggggg story!!It was just a joke...
