i would change the bumpstops and also frount top mountings and bearings

yep, exactly. don't forget to get your camber set up properly afterwards (not a bad idea to have a bit more camber than o.e. settings as well ;)). you may wanna check on the condition of your wishbone bushes whilst down there as well, primarily the rear one, if the bushes so need changing you can either go for powerflex or if you decide to go for standard just buy new wishbones (will be cheaper than putting new ones in your cyrrent wishbones)...and use vw stuff as gsf bushes are crap (a mate fitted some to his mkIII TD 6 months ago and they're dead already!)

apd - i think he was just talking about suspension items. but its a pretty risky game to wait till something breaks before fixing it when it comes to timing. on obd2 cars its really unlikely to have any probs, but its very likely the top runner will wear out on obd1's...and its quite easy to check the condition of it yourself.

well, don't replace them if they're ok.

how you check is you remove the inlet manifold, coilpack, aux water pump (well, just undo it & move it out the way), cam cover, tensioner bolt (may need rebleeding on refitting), and top chain cover and have a peek inside. its pretty likely that obd1's will have almost worn through the top 'blade' runner and you have to get the box off to change this so do the lot whilst there, but on obd2's there should be very little wear.

you're gonna have a heart attack when you find out the price of bump stops!

in ETKA they're called stop rubbers on rear, and rubber stops on front.

a couple of things, make sure you're lookin on image 407-15, NOT 407-10 for front (10 is for 4 stud cars). and also, there are two bumps stops listed for rears, with the vr6 one being slightly shorter. as you're fitting uprated susp you'll need to trim about 20mm off them anyway, so just get the cheapest. don't bother with the HD ones, the normal will be fine and you don't really want stiff bump stops.

bellows are just dust covers, as long as the current ones are fine re-use them.
