Miss-Vw 2
Hi allIm in the process of trying to sell my VR6 because I fancy a change, I still want to stick to VW obviously and Im being drawn towards the mk4 V6 4motion. I love driving the VR6 and I would like to know how it compares to the MK4. Which is more fun?
jims13 6
id have to say a vr6 mk3 is more fn, bt more potential with the mk4, and slightly more bhp to start with
Ben Seabrook 4
well I have briefly driven a 4motion and enjoyed it a lot - great drive, handled very well and a nice power delivery but as Jim says no where near as fun as a VR, the VR is more chuckable, you get better feedback through the steering wheel and feel more connected to it but can see the appeal of the 4mo especially for long journeys
bungy 2
All depends on what you prefer, I went for the 4 motion for the traction when I get it charged. They are heavy though and not permanent 4wd. They are front wheel drive with a Haldex clutch engaging the rear wheels when needed. Awesome grip especially in the wet. Have you had a good look round one. have a go in mine.
J5KE F 0
Having had a combination, vr6 2wd, vr6 syncro and v64mo, i would say the syncro was best offering 4wd and that fantastic 12v v6 sound that the 24v wont give. Having said that, the 4mo is the only one i haven't charged. As Bungy states, the Haldex makes the difference but is heavy. The 24v 4mo would be a good platform to start with as the engines should be ok for 350 - 400 brake with stock internals.
djmorgz 0
my m8 has a 4mo an i can tell u in speed theres nothing between them on the motorway from 60 upwards i was actualy pulling away slightly but off the line he was slightly quicker. and after driving his i thought ma vr was more responsive in the corners and defo sounds better lol the 4mo was silky smooth tho and had full recaro leathers in...up 2 you really m8 both are cracking cars and i would buy a 4mo
Eat this 2
iv owned both and done a test with my mates cars from 50 mph the (195 ish hp) vr6 was a fair bit faster just pulled away and kept pullin. obviously the (semi) 4wd will kill a fwd vr6 off the line but theyr just too damn heavy. the 4mo is softer than the vr6 was. technically the 24v engine is superoir BUT the 12v sounds better and is more tractable you can drive a 12v from below tickover in top gear without any complaint at all the 24v doesnt like goin below 1k rpm even the 3.2l
bungy 2
Another consideration is in stock form they are pretty good on fuel but obviously that goes out the window with tuning.
Eat this 2
why does it mate? its far more dependent on how you drive it

Miss-Vw 2
Thanks for all of the replies. I think Im definitley gonna have to test drive a 4motion to see how it feels. Ive always driven a mk3 since passing my test, going from a 1.4 to a GTI 16V and then onto the VR6. Im going to have a budget of around 3.5k (maybe a bit more), so I can either get a fairly decent but standard 4M, OR i could buy a very, very nice VR6 thats had a bit of money spent on it...Im taking into account cosmetics aswell, mk3's look way better slammed but then the mk4 have the nice smoother look to them. Decisions!
