acf8181 0
having just read a few comments in the chat box prompted by top gear tonight thought i may as well open a thread to guage interest.the cgti and seatcupra.net guys go every year, usually in august. we can tag along with them, though personally i'd prefer to go slightly earlier than august as i suspect it'll be less busy.first thing to say about the 'ring is that be very very aware of the risks before you go...its a seriously lethal place. they say one person dies a week there, usually on a bike admitadly, but chilling none the less. also, if you do hit the armco you have to pay for any damage to it and it is very pricey. also, if your car breaks down whilst on the 'ring they charge about £150 to remove it. your not allowed to tow it off yourself... (we did get a bollocking after, but saved me £150 so i didn't care!)i'd say a budget of £500 will cover a whole weekend, thats presuming theres no mishaps.rather than list all the finer points i'll just point you in the direction of http://www.nurburgring.org.uk as that site has everything you need to know.the only thing that needs reserving way in advance is the hotel...i suggest the hotel-an-der-nordschleife (info on the above site)oh, get yourself a copy of grand prix legends and get learning which way the track goes (clarkson really should have done that)to wet your appetite... Eat this 2
they didnt show any footage of the HUUUUUUUGE straight its somethin like a mile long with a big crest/jump just before the breakin point (in a 1967 f1 car that is) hehe
acf8181 0
do you mean the climb from hochiechen (where jezza went off and over the corner) upto the flugplatz?in fact the bottom two pics are of that bit.there is the main straight, but thats where the start finish is (you have to come in each lap)...its way more than a mile![ Edited Sun Nov 21 2004, 11:13PM ]

acf8181 0
it has been changed over the years...originally it included a south loop and was a fair few miles longer. that was destroyed to make way for the current grand prix circuit which can be used with the nordscleife or without. binliner 0
I fancy a go at that (whether I can afford to is another matter!) let me have a read of that website...funnily enough we were racing round the 'ring on PGR2 sunday afternoon... cliveyp 0
i'd be interested, but like others, it's affording it. I've really gotta try to get some experience in on other tracks before tackling something like that too i reckon!
acf8181 0
i don't think that necessary clive, in fact it may be a bad idea.in my mind i go out onto the 'ring as though its a back road i don't know...rather than uk tracks where i go onto it like its a race track...if you know what i mean. Eat this 2
it does look more like that acf
cliveyp 0
yeah, fair enough, i see where you're coming from. I thought it would be a better idea to at least try to get some runs in with the car close to the limits for a short distance ready for trying to keep it close to it's limits for 13 miles! Seademon 0
If anyones intrested me and a few mates organised a trip to the ring this year - was the one of the best weekends of my life! Were planning a trip nest year too gumball style - if your interested have a look at www.eurothrash.com Im not sure exactly sure of next years trip yet but I know the highlight is going to be a day at the ring with stop offs in Amsterdam etc ending in a big party somewhere!
