Hairyarse 0
I got a rust free tailgate yesterday to replace mine, (Cheers Mark ) but one thing I didn't consider is this one doesn't have the 3rd brake light fitted and mine does.Do I just leave it off? It looks like it's bonded to the window. If yes, do I just tape over the wires - will it affect the other brake lights and will it fail the MOT if I do this - not sure if illegal if factory fitted???Any help appreciatedCheersAndy
CALICO 130
If its not fitted they cant test it could just get some doublesided sticky tape and remove clean and restick yours. I like the third brake light mine didnt have one so i bought a spoiler with one in
Rikki 2
Not required unless your car is 1998 which is when it became standard to have a 3rd brake light, although i dont think its the law, somethin to do with the position of your main brake lights. I personally added the 3rd light to mine as the more warning a person has to your braking, the less likely you are to get hit in the rear. It just plugs into one of the rear lamps if you want to disconnect it. It will pass an mot!
Guest Nero1701
Here's a pic of my disconnected rear brake light.I put the spoiler on after i bought the car and it's been through a mot no probs
Hairyarse 0
Thanks for the tips chaps, sounds easy to disconnect but would like to keep so will have a bash, at least no MOT issues
mck684 0
when you say it just plugs in to one of the rear lamps what do you mean exactly?
Guest Nero1701
Join the live wire of your 3rd light to the live wire of your rear brake light then join the negative wire to the body(negative earth)
Rikki 2
If you have the correct mk3 light then it should have a loom on it which plugs into the os (i think) drivers rear light cluster!!! Run it through the rubber boot in the tailgate and plug it in!!
