thegoth 5
Or the alternate title 'BOLLOX'!#1Was trying to find isolate the problem with my ABS. Dropped the fuse panel and removed the relays in positions #15, 16, 17, 18 in the bentley guide as these seem to be associated with the ABS from all I've read. Stupidly I didn't isolate the battery and whilst levering out #16 shorted something and created sparks. Isolated battery and continued. No joy with the ABS, VAG-COM returns too many comms errors and gives up. Same as before. I had to disconnect the ABS ECU before I got a different 'controller not responding' error. But that is an aside.Put everything back. Went to start her and nothing from the starter! Checked all the fuses - see below. ECU is still talking, luckily, with no fault codes and everything else electrical seems to work.#2Whilst outside I thought I'd run the GTi up as the battery seems to go after two weeks standing forgetting the fan is dodgy when it's stationary. Was half way through checking the VRs fuses and there was this pop and the GTi vanished in a cloud of steam and a puddle of coolant. Bust a pipe somewhere. Not a good day. Ben Seabrook 4
oh no mate what a b*****d hope you get them fixed asap - at least the GTi should be a simple fix ?
thegoth 5
Think the GTi is a manifold off job so that I can get access as the cracked pipe is similar to the VRs 'stat housing and is bolted to the front of the block. The VR was a quick fix. At some point the starter circuit had been spliced and one end had come out of the crimp as I pulled out the relay board. She's running as I write :-) Wireless is cool! Ben Seabrook 4
good to hear about the VR matey :) managed to change the thermostat housing on the VR without taking the manifold off - wasn't too bad once the coilpack/dizzy is out the way
thegoth 5
good to hear about the VR matey :) managed to change the thermostat housing on the VR without taking the manifold off - wasn't too bad once the coilpack/dizzy is out the way image if the VRs crack / transfer pipe was bolted to the block. that's where I need to get to on the GTi. also found a another split pipe which I think is vacuum so it must have just rubbed and worn away *-) Gives me something to do at least. it's currently SORN so no rush. thegoth 5
manged the GTi without removing the manifold. The split pipe was an oil breather pipe meaning I got really filthy as everythig was covered in a thin film of oil.
