Car won’t start. I’ve traced it to a corroded wire that goes into the started motor.

The wire is of the braided type, looks like it doesn’t have a plastic sheath on it. One end in connected to the starter motor via a lug & nut, and the other end is attached to the car. The wire is about 2 inches long.

Looking down into the engine bay, it’s the wire that is nearest to you at the bottom of the starter.

I’m currently starting the car by holding a bit of wire to ‘bridge the gap’ while someone cranks the car, which is not ideal, as I’m having to stop total strangers in the street to help me.

Both connections on each end of the wire are corroded and due to limited access I can’t seen to get any tools down there to undo them. I could just about solder a wire onto the starter motor side, but no chance on the other side.

I’ve lost my Haynes so I thought I’d post here for help.

So questions:

1) is it an earth?

2) if its an earth can I just attach the ‘non starter motor side’ to somewhere else on the car?

3) why does everything have to be such a pain in the arse to fix on a VR?

4) why do you need the hands of a 4 year old to access anything in the engine bay?

5) why why why delila?
