Well after a amazing weekend up at the pod, my car is still 1 piece! :-)

Covered over 500 miles in it now, and just a few niggly problems to fix. 1; oil feed and return slightly leaking, 2; heat wrap the whole of my exhaust 3; make a bigger fuel tank! 4; do some tuning after a full service.

Note to self; DON'T OVER FILL FUEL TANK!

  • 2 weeks later...

Small update, swapped thermostats to the original 80c from the 70c i had in there. I think it wasn't helping the mapping as it was running really too cool, crusing it showed 65c ish!

Also (thanks to the idea from matty.vrt) i've used the same stuff thats used to line brick kilns with to lag to headers of the exhaust, and stuff a bit around the turbo.

I used some of the heat reflective fabric to line the inside of my bonnet around the turbo and exhaust to prevent any paint blisters appearing!

(i'l post some pics up tomoz peeps)

After all that i had a play with the mapping, mainly the cold and hot starting because it was starting to annoy me! And played with the map on the way home- had flames out of the exhaust on over-run after a small boost :-) Too much fuel me thinks :-) :-) :-)

Oh, an stuck some MORE fuel in it, done 650 miles now!!

Small update, changed oil and filter pre tuning on thursday, had another oil leak to sort out, this time on a power steering joint!

Also fitted an oil catch tank, and bolted the bracket to the alternator tensioner bolts. Fits well!

Thanks for the support lads!

I've literally just walked through the door (and i'm on here, how bad is that?! :-)), anyway, what a drive 8-) Got a numb bum, and a lighter wallet!

Well the drive there wasn't too bad, took just over 4 hours, which included a breaky stop (of course), rolled up at Emerald thursday morning at 9.55am, backed the car, and the boys there started there magic! :-p

After an hour or so on the rollers, Dave (walker) was noticing alot of boost creep, and a massive spike past 5700 rpm. He also realised the map sensor and N75 valve weren't working, so they set about fixing my wiring! :$

With the map sorted, Dave continued tuning, and yes i was watching with a slightly nervous walk back and forth as Dave revved my engine to limits i'd yet to take it! :-# :-# :-#

We had lunch, then Dave finished off the mapping and did a final power run, which showed 273.7 BHP @ 5731rpm (108mph) 253.8 lbft @ 5599rpm @ 0.5 bar of boost (which is just on the wastegate spring) which wasn't too bad considering! Hes limited the rpm to 5600 to stop me blowing it up because of the spike.

The final test was the road test! :) And what a drive! The car feels like an animal, drives really well, and the sound! The first straight bit of road got it, all of it! :)

I'm so happy that my cars servived, and drives great now! Well worth the trip up there!

A BIG THANK YOU TO THE STAFF AT EMERALD FOR THE TUNE AND THE ENDLESS T!

I'l post the pics up later.

Sounds like a worthwhile trip. congratulations on building a sucsessfull car then mate. So whats causing the spike and what have you got to do next then.

Thank you mate :)

The spike and boost creep is being caused by my wastegate, being too small. Dave said the 38mm that i'm running is fine for a t3 turbo housing, but where i'm using a t4 i need to go up a size to a 44mm. The wastegate struggles to dump enough exhaust gasses, therefore causing the turbo to slowly increase the boost until 5700 and the boost just sky rockets!

I've also got to get the n75 (boost controller) working. But not for a while as i'm skint!
