hi all,

pleas any advice ,previous experiance and feedback would be greatly needed by myself if you have read my other post about my auto gear box dying on me out of the blue then please HELPPPPP!

i got a quote to recon my auto box heat exchanger cooler £1700 this is from a very well known auto specialist, who i believe would be trust worthy this was a few weeks ago and since i have booked car in for this coming thursday but i can cancel ,i know its alot of money but i do love my vr ,i have been looking for a similar car to mine automatic etc and all seem to be grubby and tired and sloooow :o ,my budget is around 2k which ive saved to either get autobox fixed or get another vr,

a few people have said that once your autobox has gone and you get it reconned its never the same etc etc, other people saying ,dont spend the money on the car as the cars only worth 2k ,

if i do manage to find another auto vr clean etc for 2k how do i know it isnt gonna die again ,then i will have two dead vrs and my road will look like a vr graveyard!

so people now you understand what a fecked situation it is for me at the mo so any advice please jump in ,

many thanks

spending £1700 on a vr is something i would never do. You could pick up a vr with FVWSH around the 2-2.5k mark, however that gearbox on ebay seems like a good price but then again you will be taking a risk as you dont know the real condition of it.

see thats what i thought .i know its not the simpleist and nicest of jobs but if your a specialist with all the equipment and experiance not to mention the cost you would be provideing a better service,

this place was the closest to me and was sort of recomended well name dropped to me by my mechanic and are a very well known automatic specialist so i just went with it,i did get other quotes cheaper but further away and a problem when the car is dead and has to be towed ,my bloods been boiling all day about this,i just wanted to scream at the feller down the phone when he said it hasnt moved but hes got me car so i have to be nice, but i really feel to go and pick it up ,but again it needs to be towed so im in a catch 22 ,

was looking forward to having her back today or even this week but it dont look promiseing,

I should say so, as a mechanic myself I get so sick of these stories about time taken and bad jobs. I'd most definately haggle a discount, and stress the importance of needing your car (make up some shite story about your other one breaking too if you have one)

Well you have a problem now as the garage are effectively in control of the situation as the box is out. You regain control again once the job is completed so I would hold back any bartering until the car is in a driveable condition. 2 weeks for a 2 day job is simply inexcusable if the car was booked in correctly. Don't ever be scared of garages either, you are the customer after all, and if you're unsatisfied with any aspect of a job, then you have the right to say, so go in there and state you want 15% off (aiming for about 10%)

well i was thinking around £200 off for the time taken,

do i have a leg to stAND on?

i have never had any trouble with a garage before so what rights do i have,?

maybe i go there with other set of keys and just take it lol,

lol you can't take it because it doesn't move. Id say that 2 weeks was taking the piss. Pehaps there having problems and its not the job they first thougth it was but even then they should be honist with you and tell you whats going on when your lighty to get it back. Think you can most probaly get some money off
