Nerih 0
Hi, I have a couple of amplifiers that i need to wire into my vr.Both of them are 2000W and hence need some large guage Wires to power them.Where do you run the cables for your amps? Speaker wires down the sides of the car (right and left), Amp Power on the left hand side of the exhaust pipe ridge and RCA's down the right hand side of the exhaust pipe ridge? Also my in dash tft will pop out and cover the air vents which i'll have to close, has anyone else had a problem with tfts and airvents?I'm planning of having my DVD player and Xbox in the boot since there is no glovebox, Where can i source power for these (12v ignition live and 12v Contant) from the boot area?I have a reverse camera which also needs to be fitted, On my 8v it was fine having it mounted on the black trim that is fixed to the roof (just before the hatch hinge area starts), I really don't want my cam to be visible becuase of the security threat(s) it imposes on the car. Does anyone know if there are any holes in the rear of the car (regardless if its on the hatch) which could be used (i.e on the mk2 the badge has 2 locating holes) I would like to use my reverse cam becuase its handy when parking or to warn the idiot driver behind he/she is too close. The wiring is the main issue, if anyone can suggest routes it would be appreciated. Geastb 0
I have my power cable (4 gauge) down the passenger side (under plastic trim) the rca's down the middle and speaker wires down drivers side. How about adding a 2nd battery in the boot - that way you could have less power loss to your system. Nerih 0
Good idea, but I've never had the problem i usually stick a couple of 1farad caps on to sort out the drain. Its not for listening to loud music as much as driving very high quality speakers. As for running the xbox and dvd, i sourced the power from the head units uprated 12v ign loom and 12v live from the battery. My main concern apart from the wiring layout is to ensure that the guages are correct (no fire hazards) and i really dont want to have a secondary power source in the boot. Thankyou for the info on the cable running though.

Nerih 0
I read in this months golf magazine that the ecu needs to have the throttle body readings reset (and this has to be done by vag.com or similiar) if you unplug your battery! is this true? Also where is the best place to get the wires from the engine bay into the passenger compartment.--- Interested to hear thoughts on reverse cam mounting. andy 0
I ran my cable through a spare grommet in the engine bay, look under the expansion bottle, on the bulkhead and there are several grommet already there, I had two or three that were spare, comes through in the passenger footwell. Nerih 0
quick question, regarding geastb's wiring info, how can your speaker wire's be going down the drivers side? surely the passenger speakers' cable crosses over the 4guage wiring that you have underneath the plastic trim?or have you got a route for your'e cabling where the power and speaker cables dont cross over? - have no idea how (unless you go over the roof )
binliner 0
I read in this months golf magazine that the ecu needs to have the throttle body readings reset (and this has to be done by vag.com or similiar) if you unplug your battery! is this true?you may need to reset the throttle body but you can do it without vagcom. 1. reconnect the battery2. turn the ignition on (but dont start the engine)3. wait about 30 secs while it goes through its paces (you can hear it)4. turn the ignition off then start the engine
