Is 140K on a 1996 VR6 a lot for the engine?

Recommended Posts

Found a nice VR6 in the colour that i want, but as always, the mileage isnt right.

Its got a full Service history with only 2 owners but its got 140K on it; and the guys wants over 3k for it.

Comes with Black Recaro interior with Porsche cup alloys also.

Is the miles a lot? and how much should i be paying?

Minty - btw.....love the avatar ;)

140k is quite high but it does depend on whether the mileage is mostly motorway or stop and start mileage. Like Minty ssaid, if been properly maintained then there's no reason why it shouldn't do another 100k. My old 8v was on 180k but drove like a car with 80k..... ;)

check the serive history carefully to see thats it been well maintained. also the cam chains and tensioners really should have been changed at that mileage (it is obd2 so not as critical as an earlier car, but even so the tensioners could well be worn by then).

i'd say £2750 max myself.

Like everyone has said, 140k shouldnt put you off buying a VR6, but just make sure its been maintained properly.

Only having 2 owners from new helps. But bear in mind, if the engines done 140k then so has the box, clutch, exhaust etc etc.

£3K is too much IMO.

More like £2.5k max.

Or for another £1k, you can have mine :);)

P.S, theres one in the classifieds - 1 owner from new, low miles for £4k ish. Personally i think thats a bargain.
