dubdub 0 Posted February 3, 2008 Report Share Posted February 3, 2008 If the big ends are going then its pretty much 50/50.I have stripped dozens of bottom ends in my lifetime and it really is a case of pot luck. Phat VR6 3 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Share Posted February 4, 2008 Shafted dude, You're quite unlucky aint youfunny how it died all of a sudden ?sure its the engine?Yeah you would exspect oil starvation... low oil pressure ect or possible if the wrong tourge setting been used on the bottem end/ not tighted up properly if its been rebuilt.If when its running if you take the spark plug leads off one by one does the knocking noise goes quiter it will help tell you which one or ones is knocking (as it stops the load on the piston which you've removed the spark plug on),If the noise doesn't quiten down atall then its probaly not your big ends. tom Link to post Share on other sites

Phat VR6 3 Posted February 4, 2008 Report Share Posted February 4, 2008 Ive had the layshaft in my old 1.4 gearbox make a big end kind of noise, Went away if i pressed the cluch down so thats the only thing i could put it down to.... gav_113 0 Posted February 6, 2008 Author Report Share Posted February 6, 2008 took sump off 2nite... found why my car smokes on over run..lolfound 2 oil rings hanging out off the oil pick up pipe!!!and one bigend has spun... crank looks ok tho..im going to bodge it .. and fit 2 shells ive got.. this is just until my other 2.9 engine is built should be 2 weeks max..i know its not the best thing to do.. but i have to take the chance ive got no transport.. and its doing my head in!!!i'll post sum pics 2moz im not at home so cant... mess tho..lol Link to post Share on other sites

gav_113 0 Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Share Posted February 10, 2008 went 2 my engineers 2day.. ordered bits.. stripped my gd 2.8 engine and removed crank to go in my 2.9.. got engine stand.. so all is lookin well.. crank is being polished, block is getting homed out.. new rings .. and shells etc.. minter.. slip it in next weekend..
