yeah....probably a bit of dirt on one of the sensors...mine started off like that then it stayed on...vag com told me one of the rear wheel speed sensors was faulty...got a new one from vw for £73 :( am yet to fit it though...far to cold and wet to be playing under cars ;)

this diagram may help if you need to take the sensor out to clean it should the light stay on ;)

One of the speed sensors is fu****........Your car is showing exactly the same symptoms as mine did.......I found the noise on the pedal could be herd when the light came on while driving or braking....just replaced mine and it was a total bitch....the job should take about 20min's but as the replacement sensor is a tad bigger in dia and don?t fit very well.....spoke to a couple of the mechanics at vw about it thinking i'd been given the wrong one but they told me of the problems you have with the rear's ~:( To make matters worse the other side is now showing an intermittent fault ~:(

If the abs is still playing up for the rr day i can put the car on vag-com give you an idea of whats going on :)

sounds like a fubar'd wheel sensor to me too! had the same trouble with my front ones a while back, abs light came on intermittently to start with then all the time, changed both front ones, cost me slightly less for two from euro car parts as one would have from vw, same ate spares too! on the subject of the rears, the don't cause so much of a problem usually, but did you have your reluctor sensor pick up rings changed when you had the discs changed? these become loose when removed as they are sprung loaded, and dont fit too well unless you fit brand new ones! just a thought!

When i bought my car the abs light was on i took it to a vag specialist who told me it was the front nearside sensor after plugging it into his computer. Then went down to German & Swedish bought the sensor for about 17 quid and fitted in minutes. ABS light did not go out until the first time i put my foot on the brake........ hope this helps :)

Get your volt meter out of your garage, if not buy one very cheep and always come in habdy, then click it on to ohm`s, locate the sensor plug conectors (rears are both under back seat) & front on sensor them self.

Measure each sensor`s resitance with the meters red & black lead.

They should all be roughly the same, and the one that isn`t is the little bugger...

ie:-

osf = 203 ohms

nsf = 213 ohms

osr = 230 ohms

nsr = 1000 ohms.... faulty one!!!!!

From experience it`s 99% osr, don`t know why.

ps Make sure you havn`t any wheel bearing play

pps the resistance sign looks like the pioneer sign...

Sorry to ressurect this thread, but I'm having probs with my ABS at the moment - My ABS light has been on for a couple of weeks and VW dealership said N/S front ABS sensor is faulty - so today I've just had a new one put on (along with some new pads). The ABS light was out, so I drove off home happy.

Near home though the ABS would come on nearly every time I applied the brake <10mph - along with some juddery noises from behind the dash (ABS pump ???) - sometimes this noise happens when I'n not even braking ! The dealership took it for a test drive before I left and confirmed there were no fault codes present. What could be the problem ? ?!

My ABS light comes on all the time. Fault code has been read - turns out it's a failing ABS pump.

I haven't asked about a replacement at my local VW dealer, 'cos I know the response will start with a chuckle and "Are you ready?....."

Does anyone know if you can get exchange/reconditioned ABS Pumps from anywhere?
