Earwig 89
Ok it seems we all have the regular weep on the drivers side of the Engine from between the block and the head, but it seems mine has gotten a little worse. I am leaking water pretty badly from there now !Engine running you can see steam rising from the area and Engine off you can see very slight bubbles and spitting from the join. . . .If left for an hour I also have a large puddle under the car on that side and all around the sump is wet as water has collected on the lip on the way down :-(Is this a new headgasket job ?Oil seems fine, no mixing of fluids or white residue. . . How much am I looking at for a headgasket to be done ?Thanks for lookingMark.
craggsy 91
It does sound like haedgasket....hope not. But if it is just ring round people who know the VR6 engine. Try VW themselves as they usually do cheaper rates on older cars. Well I got quoted half price labour when i wanted some work done by VW
Earwig 89
Well, phoned VW dealer this afternoon for a quote and OMG was I shocked ! !£1200 LAbour£200-250 Parts depending on what they need !Nearly £1500 just for a Headgasket ?Can't be right surely ? I can get an engine rebuild for that ?Mark.
Ben Seabrook 4
Had mine done about 8 months ago by a local VW specialist and cost me nearly £1000 :-( However I got quoted about £1500 from VW themselves !!!! So my advice would be to shop around and not go to VW also several people I phoned did not want to work on a VR6 !!! claiming it was too complicated - honest but a bit worrying :S
