I've been getting a lot of vibration through the steering wheel at 80mph+. My first thought was wheel balance but when I went to get it checked one of the front tyres was really badly worn on the inside edge and that was what the garage said was the probable cause of the vibration....

I dont want to spend a fortune on tyres (Pirelli nero zeros @ £122 each!) to keep wearing them out so what could be the cause of the wear?

Tracking was only fractionally out btw

Defo camber, with the Koenigsports, proivided you have the room in archs, you can set the camber to facotry setting while still being low which is cool! Suppose thats adjustable camber for you! If its not the camber, as Andy says, bushes!

the new ones don't appear to be as good as the old toyo's...well, in the dry at least (which was always toyo's strong points).

i prefer uniroyals cause with the vr6 its very important to have good longitudal grip, even if it costs you a bit of lateral grip. especially in the wet as well...i can use full throttle in first gear in the wet with my uniroyals. they may not have quite as much lateral grip as some, but are so progressive on breakaway that its mucho fun.

any particular uniroyals? I've been offered 4 toyos fitted' date=' balanced etc... total price of £260 would you trust them?[/quote']

ralye 540's (though rainsports are pretty good too)....i paid £210 for all four fitted (bracknell tyre and battery co)

you may loose out a bit on the dry on the uni's but its more than made up for in the wet. they are tricky when bedding them in as well (the fronts bed in quick, but that rears take a hiwl so it gets twitchy...you could bed the fronts in then rotate them to cure this).

i don't like the wear rates for the toyo's, which is why i avoided them. was gonna get F1's, but they don't do GSD3's in my size and GSD2's aren't as good (mate had them), also been seeing a lot of GSD3's faling on cgti.

wow thats way cheaper than pirellis or toyos... will get some local prices. F1s are a bit pricey... its between getting 2 new P7000s for the front (Ive found some for £76.50 each) and putting the 2 half decent ones I have at the back or getting the 4 toyos

Justin

I'm running Toyo's. It's the second lot i've had. The first lot were on the Ibiza.....and to be honest they didn't last too long......but 210bhp and 230lb/ft in a car the size of a polo...it's hardly surprising.....wheelspin and torque steer city!

However, as the power delivery isn't as violent on the VR, they seem to be lasting very well indeed.

As a tyre, they are super sticky in the dry...(running Koni Coilovers, which help) and just as good in the wet. I can't fault them really.

if you're fairly local to bracknell, the bracknell tyre & batt co will be the cheapest by miles then anywhere else (nationwide).
