acf8181 0
having ordered a nice new bilstein sprintline kit, i feel its a good idea to replace the bumpstops and rubber top mount parts. been looking on etka and have got confused at which top mount to get for the front shocks. the only one it says for the vr6/gti is part no 357 412 331A, but then i checked on a later car and its the same part no. but the later cars have different top mounts, with a bearing (mines ealry without)...so that can't be the one. i then looked at early non-vr6/gti and the part on the image looks to be the correct one, part no. 357 412 329. but then also on the non'vr6/gti suspension there is a heavy duty mount, part no. 357 412 331A - which is the same as the later bearing-type mount. which one do i go for? binliner 0
not sure on part numbers but the bearing is a seperate bit... could it be that it has a seperate part number and you need the heavy duty mount but not the bearing?why not just ask them when you go in to order it? andy 0
are you sure that your top mounts don't have a bearing acf? i was told by vw that the top mounts for all vr6s were the same. the only bit i know that differs between early and late cars is the spring retaining plate (which rests against the bearing) this is different because the diameter of the top coil on the spring is different. (would be v interested to know if there wasn't a bearing fitted to early ones)
ingham 5
The later one is better and cheaper
acf8181 0
i heard the later ones weren't compatibel with early shocks...which i have.and theres deffo no bearing.
andy 0
Is it the case all early vr6s shouldn't have bearings? I have got them on a 94L but you've got me wondering if i should have? Bentley manual only shows front struts with bearings, or is that just the american ones I wonder?
acf8181 0
i took the struts apart and the mounts are ok...one is just loose thats all!but i can confirm that its part no. 357 412 331A and doesn't have bearings.the only difference is the top spring seat and the bearing...so its easy to switch between the two. i believe the springs are different (smaller diameter at the top for later cars or vice versa).you'rs has prob had the bearings added with a suspensions kit (thats only came in late-type) at some stage andy...nothing to worry about.
