VR6Pete 1,455
I did set up a group buy for these ages ago, but it was abandoned due to lack of interest.Hopefully this thread may generate some interest though, as they are a nice bit of kit, and a beneficial modification IMO. antera309 3
The mk4 sump is aluminium, which means it will break open if it takes a hit, leaving your engine running without any oil. Not good. Many of the mk4 boys fit metal undertrays to protect the sump on their lowered cars. If you fit an ali sump to your mk3, you should do the same. Having some baffles welded into your existing sump would probably be easier...
petervr6 0
i take it the point for swaping the sump to the ali sump is to quite the engine noise down ?

Loads of cars use alloy sumps, even my Missus's Rover 25 and I've never heard of alloy one smashing open from a light knock. If you hit it hard enough to smash open then that's driver error and nothing to do with the sump. There's no way VAG would use alloy sumps in place of steel if there was a risk would fracture from a light knock. It's one of the first things they test.
