Mr Anderson 1
Want a bit more power from my car and was wondering what the best way to go would be? Not including getting a turbo, what is the best way of pushing a bit more power out of a VR with a stage 2 VF supercharger fitted? The car has a decat and magnex stainless exhaust but other than that and the SC the engine is standard.Pros and cons of different ideas would be very heplful too.Cheers
mk3anni 0
I found my water injection gave me another 1.5psi at redline, which equated to another 8bhp on the rollers. Small increase granted, but the car does pull harder at the top.
Lizard Racing 0
I went stage 3 last Wednesday at Stealth and it was so disapointing! Dont fix what isn't broken to quote a phrase! 12 pound pulley and a front mount running 4.5bar fuel pressure. I lost 7 pound of boost and made 239 HP! We removed the I/C and replaced it with a piece of pipe and still lost 6 PSI! I could hardly make the pipe run any smoother either, hours of work and money wasted. I would stick with 8 pounds bud and save your money. I have a 12PSI pulley, belt and idler that have been on the car an hour if you are interested though.
Mr Anderson 1
Been thinking about water injection. 8bhp ain't bad considering its a good idea just to get it done for the good of the engine. Aquamist kits are around the £500 mark though aren't they?Lizard. Gutted for you, must be really disappointed. What charger are you running and what was the bhp before? Any idea what the problem was? wayne_1@tiscali.co.uk 27
ive got the stage 3 vf9sq kit on my golf same as jakes with side mount intercooler with a c2 motorsport 15 psi pulley (1 BAR BOOST) with 9.1 shimmel head spacer, shrick 248 cams, b.v.h,shrick manifold,6 branch,decat,3-piece clutch making 355 bhp but stage 3 is about £1000 to buy without fitting
mk3anni 0
Jake isn't running an intercooler.I'm running a cooling mist kit on my car, cost the sum of £150. Does the job and as you say is really there for the good of the engine, so its win win.
wayne_1@tiscali.co.uk 27
on his old highline before he went synchro he had a stage 3 kit with side mount intercooler
mk3anni 0
Yeah he did, but he changed for a front mount on the syncro which lost all his boost, so now he runs without
markiev6 1
get some nos you wont belive the change you can put what bhp jets you want. without a controler you can easy run 75 bhp
Mr Anderson 1
So what BHP would be expected from a stage 3 upgrade and has anyone fitted a stage 3 without all the other mods?Nos would be cool but I would rather the power was there all the time although I imagine it would be a hell of a lot cheaper than other options.
wayne_1@tiscali.co.uk 27
should be 315 bhp stage 3 10psi without mods
Mr Anderson 1
Sorry for all the stupid questions but that consists of a side mounted intercooler, fuel pump and pulley right? Any other work need doing to the engine to be running that sort of power and do all the parts fit in without any major problems?
Eat this 2
could somebody give me some info on side mounted intercoolers? cheers in advance
antera309 3
A 10psi pulley, water injection, an XXL throttle body and some 248 cams should put you well on the right side of 300BHP without resorting to the full stage 3 upgrade. If I was going to go for 12psi and a FMIC, I'd look at doing a short-runner inlet manifold at the same time, as it makes the pipework a lot easier and less convoluted. Mr Anderson 1
Would that not cost about the same if not more than the stage 3? Might be another option though. I suppose that any route to more power now will mean spending loads more cash.
mk3anni 0
My 8.5 psi pully gives me 10psi at redline anyway!!!
Eat this 2
as opposed to my 12 psi pulley giving 11 psi at redline!! cars are weird machinescan anybody shed any light on side mount intercoolers?who makes them how much are they?do they drop boost like fmics?? mk3anni 0
Probably get them made to spec. Forge?? Demon Tweeks??The shorter the pipe work the less boost you'll loose, but yes you will loose boost.

Petesvw 0
John, jake may be able to help you with the side IC Q's!
r32vr6 0
abit confused psi goes up if you have heat expansion so i would check your charge temps ! 8 psi pullies shouldn't be producing 10 pound of boost unless the charge temps are hot!
