acf8181 0
have just changed to poly bushes all round, and changed ball joints. lowering springs, original shocks. never had any probs before fitting the bushes/balljoints. also had new tyres so thought it was weird cause of that, but they're bedded in now and its feeling even more dodgy. when on motorway at even normal speeds (60mph), if i'm on the throttle everythings fine, but the second i lift off the steering goes very light and the car starts wandering around at the front. is it the my shocks are now completely finished? or could it be something else? all the bolts that were recently undone seem fine. its really quite dangerous. seems to be right front more than left. its also getting really effected by drafts from passing vehicles.any ideas welcome
Joe M 0
If your shocks are ok I would suspect the top mounts, rears are cheap and a doddle to replace, not sure about the fronts.Got to be worth a go, ill email u a pic of old vs new ones as I dunno how to attach a pic. What the pic doesnt show is how much softer the rubber is on old top mounts compared to new ones.
six appeal 53
Yeh, Top Mounts if its not your shocks. Cheap as chips from VW.
andy 0
getting rocked by sidewinds is a classic sign of knackered shocks
acf8181 0
i wondered how long they'd last!the rear ones are fairly new...but the fronts are the orginals as far as i know. vr6 shocks lasting 125k!!!i'd hoped i'd be able to afford proper uprated stuff when they wore out, but i can't at the mo...so it'll have to be gsf boge ones for now! Guest couzens
Yeah you could do andrew but check they are vr6 Golf ones and not corrado or G60. I was going to get a set of these; paid full whack from Awesome and they sent me four for a MK2 G60. Had to argue that one with them, then they couldn't get Golf rears so sent me Corrado ones. I quietly sent it all back and went elsewhere
VR6Pete 1,455
mine is handling really HOORRRRIBBBLEE at the moment, jumping all over the road, forever correcting it. i'm gonna book it in at the garage to have it looked at.
acf8181 0
whats yours doing exactly pete?i'm getting really fed up of FWD as well....i can't commit to corners hard unless i know the fronts gonna turn in, and i just don't have that confidence in it at the mo. i sometimes am about 5mph below the limit onn entry to corners, and i'm often turning in too early just in case i get some understeer. in other words its unpredictable...bit like mclarens current f1 car or so i hear! lol
VR6Pete 1,455
it's just not precise as it was, there is alot of movment in front wheels tho when i rock the car or give the wheel a gentle "kick" i know i need rear axel bushes too, could other's need doin also? VR6Pete 1,455
if i go over any bumps or pot holes, the car feels as if it shakes side to side slighty, what is that a tell tail of?
acf8181 0
does sound a bit lik rear beam bushes to me...but could be dampers as well. i'd put oney on the bushes though.very early to have them wearing out though...has your car had a hard life?
