kalv 0
Guys,I've done some mods to my wifes 1997 MK3 VR6 - BMC panel filter - Removed cone from standard air box - Scorpion rear exhaust - and was thinking of just getting a high flow sports cat just to help the engine breathe more freely to compliment the air filter?I know cat-bypass are cheaper but don't want hassle of removing it at MOT time?Any thoughts? Luke 0
Please enybody correct me if this is wrong(& im not being funny when i say this) i dont think you can guarantee an emissions pass with a hi-flow cat *-) Remember someone talking about how there car didnt pass once with a hi flow-cat! To be honest the gains you get from a complete de-cat aint amazing so for the ripp off price someone will charge you for a hi-flow cat i wouldnt bother! Keep your cat if you really dont want the hassle come MOT time or or do the full de-cat, you can pick up de-cat pipes for as little as £40 now
kalv 0
Oh well, looks like I will have to get my hands dirty and go down the de-cat route... reasonable mod for £40?
matth76 1
I have a Milltek high flow cat, and have never had a problem at all with emissions. All high flow cats will get through an MOT, unless you have something else wrong with your car. They are expensive (about 2/3 the price of a full exhaust) and only give about 5-8bhp, same as a complete decat. However I wanted the power of a decat without the hassle of changing it each time for the MOT.
bugsy 0
i would'nt bother with a decat, what gains you get at top end you will lose out at the bottom end with lack of back pressure,so you will have to wate till 4000 rpm before you notice anything. Better saven your money up and getting a rolling road and remap with your standard cat.If you can afford it get some 268 cams. if your deadset on a decat or hiflow cat try pipewerX.com.good look pal. mannie 0
Imo,standard engine standard parts, the oem Cat/exhaust are already very free flowing.(i only replaced my exort due to corrosion)What ever *Gain* you get from fitting this stuff only happens above 5000 rpm,...how often do you drive at this rpm and for how long ? mk3anni 0
I'd say its only really worth doing if your going forced induction.
