I'm gonna cry I had a new set of discs and pads put on my car last week as my abs keeps cutting in. I'm sure there is no fault with the abs system but the guy who done my car said my discs and pads were knackered and that was what was causing the problem. Before anyone asks I did have a look at the disks and pads and they were fooked

So I happily go and pick my car up and drive it home and had no probs with it at all but its been parked up for a few days and I pull out to the end of my driveway this morning touch the brakes gently and what happen the abs cuts in :-(

Has any one had this trouble with there vr's?????

I'm thinking now it could possibly be a sticky caliper......

Help please its driving me nuts and making me very nevous about driving the car with a brake fault....

Got a very similar prob - have you tried putting it on a diagnostic (vag-com)? - Incidentally my problems only started happening when an ABS sensor was replaced - which is reporting faulty again!

My local VW specialist said the ABS cutting in everytime I brake (under 15 mph for some reason), *may* be the ABS unit (but does not throw a fault up for this!?) and he knows an auto-electrician that may be able to confirm this, and either fix or replace if necessary.

I do sympathise with you though, mine has been a nightmare too!

I'll keep you posted as VW are looking at it next week.

ok, as you know clair i've replied on cgti...i'd get the brake resistance tested at a mot satation on their rollers, and if that comes up fine, then look into a new abs control module...which i believe is by the master cylinder on yours (would be much easier if it was an early car, they're under back seats and i would have happily let you borrow mine to test it), theres often some for sale on ebay, and i believe biunliner knows of a late spec vr6 being broken near him.

I came across this prob at work a while ago when a (independant garage) changed disc`s and pads, but knocked a sensor (only slightly), but put the air gap out by 1mm.

No faults will be stored in the memory (03).

Take it back and get them to recheck their work....

The air gap between the sensor and ring is critical.

I ended up replacing the sensor and the hub, as they had hit it enough to put the positioning of the sensor out.

Get your rear wheel bearings checked also (F & R), as any play would also cause this..... ;)

Good luck
