I'm thinking of getting a shrick soon (possible group buy???) but i've noticed my car is burning quite a bit of oil (now i've got upswept pipes i can see the blue smoke behind me when pulling away sometimes)

Should I get a new engine/recondition my old engine and leave the shrick for now or should i just get the shrick and hope the engine lasts a bit longer before getting it sorted at a later date? :?

I don't think i can afford to do both at the same time! But I don't really want to miss out on the group buy again(if it happens of course) :(

Also what are the sypmtoms of worn bores? :(

I'd get all the tests done first to confirm, could be a cylinder head problem. Bore wear is more common on the 2.9 unit but 2.8 does suffer too. If the block is worn you've got the option of an overbore to 2.9/3.0 which is big money or picking up a second hand block/engine. The later is probably the cheaper option or you could leave it if compression is still reasonable.
