Removing brake bias valve
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Yeah mk3, and pants. The only reason i ask is i did some snooping on a mk3 95+ GTi and that didnt have one at all. Just copper pipes straight to flexies, thought i would just do the same -
Removing brake bias valve

Yeah I do have abs, hence why I was just going to do away with the bloody thing. Absolute nightmare, been through 2 already, one faulty and it seems ones jammed. -
Removing brake bias valve

Hmm, where would I put that? Not sure leaving all that exposed underneath the car is a good idea right? Also, the image displayed only has the on inlet and outlet. The bias valve has 2 for both left and right obviously? Shed any light on that? -
Would I encounter any problems if i just plumb my brakes without the bias valve im getting so much trouble with? I would rather just not have it if its essentially a clever (read smart ass) junction box? Cheers

Leaking break bias valve
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Not familiar with a twist-to-set? Pretty certain my valve is still faulty as I've heard they can jam. I might have been really unlucky and have had an imperfect first one and a faulty valve in the second. Either way the valve is still at fault as there aren't any kinks in the pipe or anything and all new braided hoses. You reckon you could get me a photo so I could Check the order of the pipes and where they go? -
Leaking break bias valve

Tbh mate im still having trouble with it, it appears its really hit and miss considering it should be a fairly simple valve. considering removing it altogether after I looked at a 92 GTi which didnt have one. Bought one for my reg from GSF which was 100% faulty, replaced for another unit by a garage (so unknown make and model) and that isnt giving me breaking at the rear (tested on rollers - I work at a dealership) I'm still stumped, not sure where to go from here and cant really suggest what you should do either... -
Nah, its just a pain. Looks well tidy in the bay though! Just my two cents, ill be gunning for the quaife, then the FI

Identical to what I want to do, bet your looking forward to that! The Schrick/VSR is always going to be a bit pricey, plus if you get the 'cheaper' schrick you have to remove the mani to change the plugs which is a pain. better off putting the money towards forced induction or a quaife if you ask me, or both.

Limp mode and not starting
Leftoutside replied to Soapy72's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
I had a problem similar to this once upon a time and it turned out that the immobilizing alarm fitted (no fobs) caused the car to cut out intermittently and then one day, nothing. Having never had an auto this is just pointing out a fault I had once that sounds similar. Removed the immobilizer and hey presto -
Which coilovers

Recently fitted APs, cant fault for price. KW's budget brand so you cannot go wrong. -
Vague Handling
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
The cheap tyres are a remnants of student living. 4 Wheel alignment it is, gonna have the front bushes replaced by a garage as its my daily and reckon ill shear many bolts. So ill have them fitted and have a 4 wheel alignment and corner weighting and hopefully that should sort it! Cheers for the speedy replies! Pumped the tyres up too (my footpump was clearly out) to about 38 ps from roughly 25 and that has seemed to make a world of difference also! -
Hi Guys, Long Story short, Changed the bushes on the rear for powerflex and changed to AP coilovers all round. Front feels really vague now. Wangering over bumps and excessive bumpsteer, doesnt inspire confidence at all, and its not even that low. Tyres are rubbish and ran on positive camber for a while - now negative - (bloody cheap ass garage). Is there anything besides the wishbone bushes that might be causing this? As I dont wana change them and still not sort the problem (have all the bushes ready) Cheers

Notoriously difficult to bleed, my peddle has been soggy since ownership really as although the breaking was poor they did work and I had other things to attend to. First start with a couple bleeds of the system. Best bet is to use a vacuum method and a vag-com to bleed the ABS. If not slam the breaks on after bleeding and engage the ABS to purge the system and rebleed. Next, hope that sorts the issue, as after that your on you own
-
With the weather, put everything off, wanted to replace the front wheel bearings too so was gonna attempt it all then!
-
Breaks were bled by the garage that did the MOT. Gonna replace the master cylinder for piece of mind as everything else has been replaced anyway. Managed to get the abs working something fierce with the snow, heard that that has a similar/same effect as purging but cannot remember where I read that, and the peddle does appear stiffer but its still not great at all. Cheers for the comments

Leaking break bias valve
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Faulty valve, replaced and sorted, for anyone that has a similar problem. -
Hi, Having a similar problem as the Ruskie. First inch of break peddle travel nothing, last few centimeters apply the breaks, pretty difficult to get the abs to kick in and/or lock the wheels. The previous problem with the bias valve has been sorted (Faulty bias valve - Damn GSF) So next stop worn master cylinder and/or caliper refubishment? Did do a quick search but didn't get any results. Cheers.

Leaking break bias valve
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
For anyone who may have a similar problem or is interested in removing the bias valve for whatever reason. The solution is to get a man with a hairy arse to do it and pay him some money. Specially in this weather. -
Right so long story short I cannot for the life of me get it to top weaping. Took the rear beam of to replace the bushes and destroyed some of the already corroded brake pipes with it. No problem, just remake them in copper right? Wrong. The details: front to back lines to the bottom, right hand (drivers) remade top left to left - remade top right to right Now before you all start screaming your crap at making break lines (which might not be completely false) none of the other beam lines are leaking whcih have all been replaced also and it really is just a tiny weap. Please tell me there is a

Front end rattle.
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
I should have put it was one thing after another since I bought the bugger. Tbh it's not played about too much and tends to go without wanting until payday at least. I've been wanting to poly bush for an absolute age but just have neither the time nor money, especially the rear bushing as I've had a look at diys and the actual bushes and it looks an absolute nightmare unless you remove the rear subframe which only serves to extend the parts list further and with it the cost. It's tough because I really want to do it justice and I'm struggling as I'm unemployed at the moment (supported by the r -
Front end rattle.
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
Well, if any of you care haha, I whipped the wheel off and it seems that the TA teckniks crappy coilovers might be on their way out as they have lateral play (Can anyone let me know if this is out of normal order?) So I'll make use of my Koni's I've had laying about. Its one thing after a bloody nother at the moment. Will still be polybushing for good measure hopefully while I'm in there. -
Front end rattle.
Leftoutside replied to Leftoutside's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
So, I understand the rears need doing also and my MOT is coming up soon, should i wait to see if it fails and providing it does invest in a full powerflex kit such as http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POWERFLEX-SUSPENSION-BUSHES-FULL-BUSH-KIT-GOLF-MK3-VR6-/310240151047 including front and rear bushes and forget about this kit? Im 90% sure the rattle is worn bushes. -
Now before I start I am just going to say that I haven't even bothered to look just yet as the weather is rubbish but hear me out. I have recently picked up a rattle from the front left when throwing bumps at the suspension, one thats definitely new and have since presumed that its most likely the tired old bushes that the car was sold to me on. Question: Does anyone have any experience with PSI tunings stage 3 'back to factory' kit which seems to be well priced and most importantly all the bushes are ready pressed. see http://www.psituning.com/product.php/21353/psi_suspension_energise_kit_st

Well exactly, although there is always confusion about the obd1/2 myth about more horsepower which I could see them publishing but pretty much plucking it out of thin air is pretty embarrassing. Always wanted a syncro, specially supercharged
