  1. I did notice a strange sound when I got it stinking red hot and turned the engine off. sounded like an egg timer going round after the fans had stopped for about 5 or 6 mins. coming from the top right hand ride of the engine block.
  2. no but if it was would it make the coolant bubble?
  3. I may also mention there are no other signs of hg issues. no coolant in the oil or vise versa, the heaters work and there is no smoke comimng from the exhaust. HELP!
  4. cheers mate. the pricipal (i think) for exhaust gases in the coolant is the same for any car. also unfortunatley I live out in the stix in cumbria and am stuck with very little within a 50m radius. reluctant to travel further with hg issues. will keep you posted.
  5. brief history bought my vr6 2 wks ago. p reg obd2 91000. £1100. did all the tests I could with it. engine is quiet, no knocking, brakes are good..... noticed after a week it was using coolant. about a pint a week so far. found 1 drip of coolant around thermostat housing on a bit of metal that sits bellow it which led me to belive it was the thermostat housing that was leaking. today I got it really hot, and I meen hot, sat in traffic for ages, and when I opened the bonnet more coolant had gone and I noticed (while the engine was running) bubbling in the coolant reservoir. this is surely exha
  6. 2 way, 3 way and 4 way denote the amount of drivers i think. as in a 3 way speaker has low = woofer, mid = mid-range driver, high = tweeter. all in one unit. think so anyway, though I'm not expert.
  7. really depends on how much money you want to spend. are you planning on powering them with an amp? if you havent got alot of cash and your not wiring them up to an amp some vibe or fli 6.5"s will go in the door and sound alittle better than stock. set you back £30 or so. but the only way to get a decent sound is to buy some component speakers in the door and a sub in the boot and run them off an amp. your talking £250 minimum for that setup
  8. Ive found various places that do it on t'internet but its not really clear if they adjust your speedo for wheel/tyre sizes (if you get what I meen)
  9. If I change my wheels to 16s and get 195/45/16s obviously my speedo is gonna be out, can I get my speedo recalibrated? do garages do that, is it expensive? will it handle ok on that set up?
  10. ok cheers guys, might have a bash at it. can always sand it down and start again.
  11. if I were to fit aftermarket side skirts to my vr6 will they make it lower? Whats the chance of me being able to fit and paint them myself without it looking crap? ruff idea of cost for a body shop to do it? £200? cheers guys

  13. most of this set is genuine vw damn sight cheaper than that http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g3belts.php
  14. are tie rod ends the same as track rod ends?
  15. what parts do I need then? thermostat housing and seal and new coolant? is that it? should I do the water pipe too? is it worth putting a new thermostat in? Ive noticed the needle on my temp gauge takes ages to move and when it does just sits at 70, until I sit in traffic and it goes up to about half way. is that normal?
  16. the drip was directly below the thermostat housing.
  17. thanks all for advice. ive taken it a run today, got it stinking red hot and parked it up, put a piece of card under it and had another inspection of the engine. There was just one solitary drip front right hand side of the engine bay. it tasted sweet so presume that it is coolant. now I have seen that handy diagram (thanks apollo) I shall go and check if its the thermostat housing.
  18. ok. after doing abit of research I am now worried about my headgasket. but if its lost a pint or so wouldnt I find evidence of this in my coolant or oil?
  19. ok so if I drain the system I can't just put pink in, can I? need some special chemical to flush it first? also if its therm housing what part do I need to buy ? cheers
