  1. just to add the turbine housing is 18cm so similar to 1.00A/R
  2. ok so bit of an up date........bought myself a bigger turbo! its a holset H1C and its a lot bigger than the last effort. it has a t3 flange fitment so i bought a weld on t3 flange to make my manifold. below is a picture of my plan. can anyone see this being an issue with a standard obd1 inlet manifold? i know it needs one pipe making longer and a wastegate flange putting in but you get the idea. one more question.......after offering up my weld on T3 flange is it ok to port the area marked on this next picture?
  3. change of plan, managed to get myself a holset H1C dirt cheap but needs a rebuild. gonna couple this to a homebrew ram horn manifold.
  4. cheers Kev, deffo didnt pay that much for it! i know what your saying about the exhaust temps being completely different but folk have been using holsets and alike off cummins diesels for years with out problem? think il stick it on ebay and if it sells il use the money for a different turbo, if it doesnt then i might stick it on and see how it goes. has anyone run a holset/garrett turbo from a diesel on here?
  5. hi jim, ive searched the perkins number and can find a little bit of info but no compressor map, the perkins number is 2674398. thanks for the heads up on the traders section, gonnna have a look now
  6. i bought it off a local chap so no link to the turbo im affraid ive just measured the compressor out let and its 2 inch external and 1.5 internal. can i ask where you would get the info kev as i cant find it on the garret website, i have however found its from a perkins diesel engine at 3.9 litre, keep the info comming please kev as im hoping ive not dropped a b*****k with this one! a few pictures for you all........
  7. hi kev, thanks for the input, ive just bit the bullit and got what i think is a dirt cheap brand new garrett gt32, problem is it looks a bit small on the compressor side, these are the markings...... compressor A/R .42 turbine A/R .82 the inlet to the turbo is about 53mm but reduces to 40mm turbine outlet is 70mm reducing to 50mm at the blades, does anyone think the compreesor is the wrong size??
  8. yeah figured that much might just run an ebay item to get it up and running then up grade when it gives up. will i need 4inch maf for 300ish bhp?
  9. cheers guys i read the diy turbo thread and thats how i got this far, bungy how much we looking at getting a manifold made? been looking for a cast spa one but cant find much without goin to usa.
  10. what sort of spool do you think this will offer? im looking for 3/3500rpm? its ext wastegate so i know i need one and also know about the boost pipes and blow off valve. as for the engine, 120k but will be getting new chains and guides when i take the head off. wasnt gonna bother with the ARP stuff as im not chasing silly numbers, my golf weighs less than a ton so 300ish will be plenty lol
  11. hi all im thinking of turboing my mk2 vr6. current spec is 6 branch and 268 cams with a stealth remap. ive been searching for turbo info as i was a complete noob to it all but have now come to this........ decomp plate, cylinder head rebuild garrett gt3283 hot side A/R .82 cast ebay manifold intercooler RRFPR bigger injectors 360cc/440cc and a remap after all running. im hoping this little lot will make me around the 300bhp mark and not spool to early as i dont want the grunt till a little later in the rev range but to the limiter, will this turbo be up to that? am i missing anything?? any fu
  12. they open the valves further and for a longer duration. i run DRC 268s on a standard head with remap to a 6800rpm limit with no probs
  13. hhhmmmm ok il check prices then. did you still have to use a press once you had warmed/froze the parts?
  14. thanks for that, whats needed to get the old guides out? im guessing there press out/press in? id rather change them for piece of mind
  15. hello all, just bought a cheap second hand head that im planning to rebuild over the next few months. gonna completely strip the head off all the valves and take it for skimming. 12 new valve stem seals. does anybody know how much valve guides cost to replace and whether there worth doing if not worn? also anything else im missing? while its all off the car i will be port matching the inlet manifolds to the head aswell. cheers Ash
  16. its a bit nerve racking when your stod next to your car with the wheels spinning at 130mph and the engine hitting 6500 revs thats for sure!! all worth while tho Pete were did you get your head from??
  17. i can imagine the bvh heads to be awesome! there just a lot of money and i feel a supercharger is more bang per buck even when running fairly low boost. can i be cheecky and ask how much your head was pete? did you get before and after power runs?
  18. its deffo a lot of fun in a mk2 altho ive never been in a mk3 vr so cant compare. my mk2's been on a diet too, no interior and poly windows with fiberglass bonnet and boot to come there a cracking motor, i read so many 16v vs vr6 stories and all i can say from owning both in the same shell is the vr6 kicks its arse all day long lol
  19. yeah it must be helping im sure but cosidering how bad the head is i thought it would free up alot more? ive seen the big valve heads but for the price my as well save a little more and go Fi
  20. id have thought bigger numbers with the grant head? whats been done to it? might not bother with mine if its not gonna open it up abit!! how hard is it to go obd2? sureley you'l have to change your throttle body and inlet mani?
  21. there good numbers for obd1, any other trick bits you have? my cylinder head is a little tierd so hoping a fresh one with maybe a bit of porting is in sight, should help a little as i read the heads on these are a bottle neck?? but over all im happy how it drives, its deffo quicker than my mates mk2 vr but on paper theres not much between us, on the road is a different story tho
  22. kev i run a ford coilpack but have not opened up my sparkplugs, is it just for a more efficient burn?
  23. at stealth the other week i was there for about 3 hours, but the mapping took about 1 and a half, its a good mornig or afternoon down there but deffo worth it
