  1. There is a place called Avenue Panel in Rushden, it's not too far from you.
  2. 110 Octane!!!!!!!! What's that like? Do you notice a big difference? That's expensive stuff......is it road legal?
  3. I don't really go for naming cars, I have always just called it 'my car'. My ex girlfriend liked to name our cars and I thought it was silly. If anything I call it 'The VR6' but it's not getting a silly name.
  4. Octane Booster eh??? Does this do good?? Can it do any harm? Sounds like a bit of fun to me! I might try it.
  5. same here Do you notice any difference with the high octane fuel?
  6. Just wondering?? When I got the VR6 the previous owner told me to use high octane, I have always used 99 octane fuel in my GTi and have continued with that. A friend of mine who drives an AMG Mercedes says his car runs better on the 95 octane fuel from the same petrol station. There was a test on Fifth Gear, where they tested the difference between 95 and 98 octane. They tested three cars on a rolling road. The first was a small economic car (can't remember which one) and it didn't make any difference to the power, the second car was a golf GTi (new one) and the high octane fuel gave a few mor
  7. My Koni dampers arrived today, the fronts have a key to adjust them and can be adjusted on the car but the backs don't. It seems that I have to adjust these before fitting to the car. The instructions say that I compress the shock and then turn up to 720 degrees. I don't know where I should set them to start with and I don't want to have to take them back off to adjust them. I was thinking of setting them in the middle. I'm running on 205/40/17 and will be fitting Powerflex bushes when the suspension is fitted. Does any one else have these shocks? If you do, where have you set your rear shock
  8. I got a Powerflow cat back system for my GTi 8v. I could choose exactly what I wanted it too look and sound like. They can make it as quiet as the standard exhaust if you want. I went for a mild sport sound. The sound was awesome, really deep. I don't know how many bhp the power increased by but I noticed it. The throttle was much more responsive and the car was fast for an 8v. I would recomend Powerflow and when I have to get a new exhaust for the VR6 it will be a Powerflow.
  9. I'm going to give it a go. So my final decisions are Koni adjustable dampers with 35mm lowering springs, Supersport top mounts for the front (not sure about the back yet) and powerflex bushes. I think that should do it. I think I will order them from Venom....unless any one has any suggestions of where to get them cheaper. Will Venom do a discount if I am a premium member?
  10. Here are some pics of the wheels on the car, maybe it might help.
  11. I'm not sure how much my car has been lowered. At a guess I would say somewhere between 25-40mm I have 17" rims with 205/40 tires. I want to get new suspension, possibly a Koni spring and damper set that lowers the car 35mm. I will also get Supersport Top mounts for the front which lower the front another 10mm. So the car will sit 45/35. I think this will work with the wheels I have but I wanted to ask for some advice. I don't want to do any arch work if I can help it. What do you think?
  12. I have not tried Toyo's but I have tried Pirelli P6000's. The Pirelli's were excellent grip but didn't last very long. I tested the grip to the limit, so I was expecting to use them quickly and I was shocked at how fast I went through them. A friend of mine owns a tire garage and he suggested I use BF Goodrich G-Force Profiler. He says they are just as grippy, they will last at least twice as long and they cost the same. They have a nice looking tread too. The cheapest place I found to get tires is www.mytyres.co.uk Order them over the net and then pay a garage to do fitting and balancing. Whe
  13. I would like to get some polybushes too. I haven't even got round to this question. I'll tag a long with this thread.
  14. A friend of mine said he might be able to get me a good deal on some Koni coilovers. I will get these if I can afford it. I'm just waiting for a price from him. I'm going to change the bushes and top mounts too. I see a lot of comments about standard top mounts not lasting very long (some people reporting 20 or 30 miles!!!!!), I guess this is when the car is lowered to the floor. I will lower the car about 40mm, Is it a good idea to upgrade them to the Supersport top mounts?
  15. I can't find KW V1's for less than £650 and they are not adjustable damping. If the Gaz GHA kit is TUV approved then I think this is the one, it has adjustable damping and comfortably fits my budget. VR6 Nat...you said you could supply the Gaz kit for about £500 if I become a premium member. Does that price include delivery to my house, or delivery to you? How long would it take to supply the kit?
  16. I don't want to ride very low. 60/40 would be fine for me. I don't want to feel every bump in the road and I don't want bouncy. The KW V1's don't have damping adjustment. When the coilovers sieze up...what actually siezes? The damper or the height adjuster or something else?
  17. I did a google search for 'Gaz GHA'. I clicked on the third search result and it said that price. Having looked at the page again, I can see that kit was not for a Golf. The price for the Golf kit is a little higher. I would like to get something with the TUV approval. The FK Sport edition plus kit looks like a good choice - Adjustable height and dampening - TUV approved - Fits my budget Any comments on this kit?
  18. It seems coilovers are the popular choice. I have found a supplier that's not too far from me that does Gaz GHA's for £474.22 incl. VAT. This seems like a very good price for fully adjustable coilovers. They don't come with the German TUV quality approval. Does that mean they are not as good as the ones that do?
  19. Thanks for the replys......The rims are 17's with 205/40/17 tyres. Can anyone suggest a good quality coilover kit for about £500 The Phirm recomend Koni but they are almost double my budget, I asked about AVO's and they said they are prone to leaking.
  20. Hi, I know this sort of question has been asked many times, I have tried the search and can't find the answers I am looking for. I need new suspension and don't know what will be best for me. I don't really need it to be adjustable but that would be an advantage. I'm looking for a 60/40 drop and a reasonably comfortable ride. I still want sporty handling but I don't want to feel every bump in the road. My last car was a GTI 8v and was lowered 40mm all round with a Hottuning spring and damper kit. I was happy enough with the ride on this kit but I don't expect that kit to last too long. The new
