It came with an original 1997 sales brochure. I like what it says about the driving experience. It says: "to make the car enjoyable to drive, it has sufficient power" that's right....it's not too much power, it's perfectly sufficient.

That does make sense and I agree. When I got my previous one it was already lowered and needed a bit of work. I spent a lot of money upgrading the suspension, fitting ARB's, Polybushes and uprated brakes then it blew the head gasket. My plan was to get a new one and swap the suspension and brakes over then sell the old one as spares or repair. I have the old one insured for a month, so I need to decide what I'm doing and do the work in the next month. But now I have this one, I'm reluctant to modify it. I think I will do the brakes and the ARB's and it's the lowered suspension that I need to

I would like to, the trouble is I'm a sound engineer, and I get really busy working at festivals through the summer. There was a few shows that I wanted to get to last year but I couldn't make it too any of them. I'm going to really try to get to some this year. I'm in two minds about modifying this one, I like the look of my old one with the 40mm lowered springs and I loved the way it handled with the uprated dampers, ARB's & polybushes. But this one is so nice as it is, that firstly I'm worried that I might ruin it and secondly, there aren't that many left in this condition with low mile

It cost me £3k, I will post some pics as soon as I get a chance to take some. I'm away working for a few days but hopefully I will get a chance next week. It's so nice to drive, smooth and quiet. I love it!

I got another 1998 dragon green 3 door today. This one has black leather interior. It's very good condition. The rear seats look like they have never been sat in. No rust, no stone chips on the bonnet, No modifications except K&N air filter and sports back box. The engine bay is very tidy. Original 15" BBS alloys. The car has full VW service history and has only done 57,500 miles. It has had a service every six months with as little as 500 miles between some of the services and the most it has gone between any service is about 6k. The previous owner kept it in a garage and only driven it o

Thinking about getting a new car....low mileage VR6 or R32 ???????
Dragon Dave replied to Dragon Dave's topic in General Chat
I don't want a modified car, I would much prefer to keep it factory standard as far as looks go. With the VR6, it needs to be modified, I don't like the way they look as standard, so I would need to lower it. I like the way my VR6 handles and looks at the moment, so if I buy another one it will need Koni coilovers, poly bushes and Eibach ARB's. I like the way the R32 looks as standard and I would much prefer a car that is unmodified. I went to test drive an R32 today. It feels like a new car. I liked it a lot. It was much more responsive in the lower rev range, which is something I really want -
I have been running a VR6 for almost two years now, so I am familiar with how much it is to run and get new parts. I want to know how the R32 compares to the VR6 in cost to run/parts? I know my insurance will be double but that is still only £7 - 800, so that's not going to put me off. Any info would be great thanks.

Does anyone know anything about this car P640 PVR
Dragon Dave replied to Dragon Dave's topic in General Chat
He told me he bought it with all the mods done by previous owner. All the receipts have the name Dave on them. His name was not Dave. It has had a lot of money spent on the re-build, I think if I had spent £10k+ on a car, then I wouldn't be selling it for £5k after 6,000 miles. All these things were putting a doubt in my mind and I wanted to be 100% sure before I spend £5k on a VR6T with 119k on the clock. But I may have passed on a bargain. It probably was worth every penny. Let me know what you think to it, after you have checked it over. -

There was one other small thing that made me unsure....There is another advert for the same car on piston heads. Different pictures but the same car. The car is pictured outside a different house. The guy I spoke to said that was his advert too but he took it down so he could add more spec to the advert. I was unsure about this. It seems possible that he has just bought the car a week or two ago and wants to sell it immediately. He says he bought the car in May and has only done 400 miles since buying it. But he also says he got the car from someone he knows and the log book didn't get sent of -

I was impressed with the spec. Everything looks like it's been done right. The suspension was tight but also not uncomfortable. The car was very tidy and almost immaculate. The only bad points were: offside door trim needs touching up rear bumper cracked from reversing into something (spiders web style cracks in the lacquer) both rear arches will need some work to keep them looking tidy. The paint has come off from where the arch has hit the tyre and it has started to corrode. It didn't look like it was much to fix but it's not immaculate. I was very put off by it not having any service histor -

Are you serious? I went to test drive it today. I want a daily driver and to be honest I think it's a bit much for a daily driver, I need aircon. I hope he enjoys it, it's very fast. -
It's advertised on Piston heads for £4,900 ovno [link] http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3063470.htm It has had a lot of money spent on it with receipts but no service history at all. 119,000 miles on the clock has had a Turbo conversion done by Stealth Racing Race logic launch control and traction control. Koni coilovers uprated ARB's and poly bushes rolled arches done very well Recaro cloth interior No air con Does anyone know this car? Any opinions about the price?

I read that somewhere before I went to drive it. I don't know how accurate the information was. It was some review on a web page somewhere. but the growl it made when it changed gear was awesome. I don't know what made it make that sound but it sounded like what it described in the review with the squirt of fuel. Maybe I got it wrong and it is some flappy thing but it sounded good what ever it was.

Last week I got sent a letter from Audi, it says "as one of our most valued customers" (even though I have never bought anything from Audi) "we would like to invite you to take a test drive in the model of your choice" So I phoned up to make an appointment and when the lady asked me what car I want to drive I asked for an RS6, she said "I'm not sure if we have one of those.....what car do you currently drive?" I told her it's a '98 Golf VR6, she said she will get someone who knows what cars are available, to call me back. The manager phoned me back and said "We don't have one of those in stock

When the engine is hot and the radiator fans come on, they should stay on after the engine is switched off. Mine don't, the fans stop when the ignition is turned off. If I put the ignition back on, the fans will come back on and cool the motor as needed but this should happen with the ignition turned off too. I asked a VW specialist to take a look and see if they could fix the problem. They say there is nothing wrong with the fans or the control unit. They suggest that it is the aftermarket alarm that is wired incorrectly and is cutting the power after I switch off the ignition. The alarm is

I have just had a new head gasket fitted and now I have a problem with my rev counter jumping. It operates as normal when the revs are below 4k. When I take the revs above 4k the needle starts to jump about. The speedo also starts to jump about when I get up to about 80 mph but the speedo only does it occasionally and the rev counter is all the time (if above 4k) I have never had this problem before, it has only started to do this since the head gasket has been changed. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?

Head gasket blown - what should I do????
Dragon Dave replied to Dragon Dave's topic in Engine Maintenance and Problems
Thanks for the replies...... I think a recon would be a good option......it might be more costly but possibly better in the long run. Nero, how much is your cheap engine? What can you tell me about it?.....mileage, service history, any other info? Is it worth having a 2.9 corrado engine fitted? My car is an OBD2 -
The garage has told me the head gasket is blowing and they have quoted me £750 for the work (including having the head skimmed) I need to decide if I should get the work done on this engine or get a second hand/reconditioned engine. My car has done 130,000 miles, the engine was all good apart from the obviouse. It hasn't had the chains done. I have spent too much money on the suspension to consider scrapping the car. One option is to get a cheap second hand engine and have that fitted but then I have to take my chances on that engine and it might not be any better than what I have got. Anoth

I have a 8mb connection provided by the Post Office. On average I get just over 6mb on the download and just under 1mb on the upload. I live not far from the phone exchange building. Apparently the new BT fibre optics is available in my area now. They claim I can get speeds of up to 100mb and they say I will probably get an average of about 60mb. I have to sign up to BT to get this.
