No mate not at all, I don't want to take the chance to be honest. Only if I had a trailer lol.
But thanks RCF.
-
Would like to say thanks to Jim for giving his time and a smack down lol to put some perspective on the build etc..
I will strip the rocker cover and take a look at the chain to see if its slack again and may take the top side cover off to see if there is any damage/additional wear to the top guide rail and chain tensioning plate.
So lots of pictures. Looks like a top end timing issue. so until this is sorted I really will know if there is engine damage.
Cheers Jim and guys for your comments

Such a sad ending to such a promising project :-(
I really cannot see an option at the moment to be honest. Nothing is free in this world, so something has to give.
-
After all that can't believe it's being broken up mate. Sorry about that.
When you get chance to sort prices can i have them on the following:
Vortech V3 supercharger kit with OBD2 United Motorsport ECU' date=' used for 100 miles, includes warranty for the charger
312mm brake conversion
Stainless steel brake lines
Vibratechnics engine mounts, all three
Jetex non-resonated exhaust system
AP suspension - 8 months old
Thanks.

I'll let you know for sure once a decision is made.

so whats not running right ? ring me or pm ' date=' me everything is solveable
[/quote']
I'll be honest, it was great that Tony came back again and sorted out the timing issue after fitting the cams and fuel pump but the loose top tension bolt and oil pissing out with the rough idle again has totally dishearten me.
I've got a tappet noise and either a chain/guide or timing issue but I have got no pennies left and no wheels to roll around in..
I thought I would raise the funds for the black VR your mate had but nope and then I found another engine but was just unlucky as it had been promised.
So in a nut shell not a lot I can do!
-
Don be warned, having done alot of research I would suggest changing the tappets with the Cams.
With regards to both I will put these on the sales board once I have gone through the parts and prices.
I will PM you once they are advertised correctly.

I'm done fella

Thread is dead and done. Thanks for your input.

Well I have numerous issues related to vag.com errors of which I have sorted myself with support from the forum of which has been great but the issues mechanically caused by mistakes is beyond me to resolve and I am now totally dishearten and have run out of money.
I will post up all the parts that have been used to do the build and will look into now breaking the VR.
The first parts to go are below
Schimmel Cams 263 - Used for under a 100 miles
Raceland 6 Branch which is heat wrapped
O2A gearbox
Lower strut brace
Sub, amp and wiring kit
New green stuff front brake pads
New metal layered head gasket
ARP head stud set
Header 8.5.1 compression plate
The above will be the first to go then;
Vortech V3 supercharger kit with OBD2 United Motorsport ECU, used for 100 miles, includes warranty for the charger
312mm brake conversion
Stainless steel brake lines
5 door leather interior including door cars and heated seat loom
Vibratechnics engine mounts, all three
Vento front end with Laminx front clusters
Jetex non-resonated exhaust system, used for a few months
Compomotive TH mono 16inch, 8j with 205,40,16 tyres (rare rims)
Few month old recon starter motor
Another O2A gearbox + clutch + flywheel
Boost gauge and oil temp gauge + holder
Smoked rear clusters
Number plate surrounds
AP suspension - 8 months old
Polybushed front wishbones
Polybushed rear beam bushes
New NGK spark plugs
2 sets of dubpower 7mm HT leads (1 new, 1 used)
Spare engine which needs new piston rings
FK front fog lights
There will be more I will work out the prices for parts etc and will put them on the sales board, all parts will be advertised on other forum boards. Please do not PM me for deals on parts this needs to be done on the sales boards as per the forum rules etc...
Once the above parts are gone I will then strip the car for the remaining parts of real value and then will give the shell to the local fire brigade to burn out.

Lovely, good to hear the worse!! Well I am currently looking for a low mileage engine which has had it's chains done. I will get new tappets and transfer the cams.
So currently my project is on hold as I don't want to put anymore money into this engine. Cylinder 5 is running the lowest compression of 130 psi when Tony tested.
Jim I will PM you for a quote on a few bits!
-
Well Tony came down and noticed the timing was slightly out, I had the choice to change the tappets with second hand ones but decided not too as new ones would be a better option. The car ran so much better but the bolt that tensions the upper chain was not tighten up and oil pissed out, so I did that job and the car idles rough only on a cold start and runs well when warmed up, boost is fine through the rev range.
The only sound is the tappets. What would be the effect of oil coming out of the bolt as it's spring loaded and relies on oil?
-
I will check that tomorrow Kev.
When changing the cams do you need to empty the oil in the tappets before fitting the new cams? The cams are Schimmel 263.

Air straightner is the black plastic grid inside the MAF
Cheers Adam,
Well big update, I've decided to take the VR off the road until the tappets/cam issue is sorted, MAF/air filter move, crank house breather changes etc...
-
Anyone near you with a proper RossTech lead and the latest copy of VCDS?
Tappet noise is persistent' date=' pinking is engine load related.
Moving the MAF away certainly helps. I had quite a long section of ducting under the wing, but I was on OBD1 and needed to keep the MAF horizontal. OBD2 seems less fussy about orientation but OEs do fit MAFs at certain angles for a reason though. Does your MAF have the air straightener fitted still?
[/quote']
Hey Kev, I've got latest version of the VCDS 10.6 but the cable is 908 of which shows the cable but cannot detect the car.
So I have noisy tappets then, can this be caused by changing the cams and engine oil?
I hope me moving the MAF helps tbh. Not sure what a air straightener is tbh?
-
I got to ask Jake but why are you adding an intercooler?
-
Just trying to understand what the possible issue maybe with the sound coming from the car.
I originally thought the sound was Engine Pinking but it may be Noisy Tappets!
So my questing is how do you tell the difference?

Block 99
99' date='0,General Engine Data
99,1,,Engine Speed
99,2,,Coolant Temp
99,3,,Lamda Regul.
99,4,Lamda Reg.,Oper.Mode
[/quote']
I checked vag.com yesterday evening a few times but could not find the above as block 99 did not exists in vag.com
I found the below groups
004 - Lamda
006 - Fuel Trim
009 - Air Mass Data
The edition of vag.com used is 908.1 and this is only supported software for the cable revision number.
I also could not find Lamda Reg.,Oper.Mod anywhere sorry.
I will revisit this step once I move the MAF,, blank off the crank house breather and air filter. I am hoping that this sorts out the issue.
I will be honest, I am now not 100% sure that the engine is pinking as it may be tappets related. Though I did not have the issue before! Would changing the cams and oil cause the sound to start?
-
Decided to move the MAF further away from the charger, so I bought some 1 meter 2ply air ducting. I have also bought new t-bolt clamps and 19mm blanking plug to block off the crank house pipe inlet on the charger inlet pipework. The crank house breather is to be plumbed to the passenger side oil catch.

Another day another fault
00533 - Idle Speed Regulation
14-10 - Adaptation Limit (Add) Exceeded - Intermittent
I thought before before taking the throttle body off' date=' just check for fault codes and there it is.
So throttle body off, give it a good clean with carb or brake cleaner, then back on and throttle body adaptation.
[/quote']
TBA is OK according to vag.com, I will test the lambda next

Response from VF regarding my charger and boost
Hello Martin,
Â
The engine should go into positive pressure almost immediately. But, the boost will not be at it's maximum until the rev limit. For example 8 psi at 7000 should mean about 2-4 psi at 3500.
-
Will do I will test tomorrow and post the output.
I am sure its something simple.
-
I had 4bar on mine I'm sure it's correct but worth a check with United as we're checking everything..
United defo stated 3bar FPR.
