Could just be a hose gone mate' date=' the 1 out of the back left of the head, or 1 of the 2 from the heater matrix.
The light is the coolant lever low indicator.

yep looks like it was the one coming out the back over the mani..the heat from must have made it weak. . and would explain the steam..still doesnt explain the mist on the back of the car as it is a bone dry day. i'll get the pipe and see what happens. any ideas on price as i kno coolant hoses from vw can be pricey

on the side of the road as i write this waiting for recovery..light flashed up on dashboard the one furthest to left..pulled over at next available point with steam coming gushing from the rocker cover. coolant has emptied and there was mist on the back of the car where i think it could have been coming out the exhaust. just called for a tow. what u guys think?

my thermostat went and whilst changing it i noticed one of the terminals on the coil pack was oxidised. mine also had cracks in it but only recall it mis-firing the once so i guesss it was starting to go. it was also jumpy once coming to idle at junctions. replaced leads plugs and coil pack and problem solved..just going from my experience though
-
could be the coil pack.. if its obd2? have a look under the bonnet at night and see if its arching..also look for any obvious cracks etc..but try to eliminate the cheaper options first as a cheapo coil pack will set u back close to 100 off ebay

i had pressed plates with the font and the 'd' come with the car when i bought it and was ok for the first couple months then i got stopped twice in a week by undercovers. I got a producer for the first one but they can dish a 60quid fine if they want. I got them changed straight away as its not worth the aggro but i guess it just depends on what area you live in.

evening to you all,
I know its been a while since ive updated so thought id let you know the situation. Spoke to my insurance company a couple days ago to find out what was happening as i hadn't heard from them since my car was surveyed. Anyway both cars have been checked through the insurance and no damage to either partys car has been found. This info has been passed from my insurance company to theirs and are now awaiting reply. I'm still in no mans land really... but theres officially no damage to pay for on either party. Will just have to see if the guy tries to follow through on this injury claim. Renewal is coming up in a couple of months so i need to know if its bi bi to the vr if my premium rockets. Hopefully not though

hi people, Quick update. They came out to look at my car on friday..and were done in 10 minutes, and their due to go see his. I'll just have to wait and see what happens now. Thanks 4 the support again

well an independant company is coming to survey both cars to try and make it add-up and also so its not a non biased opinion. Like nat said it is hard to prove that someone is faking whiplash. I even said to my insurance surely it cant be taken further if theres no visible damage but according to them they get many cases that go right up to court and the person being claimed against often loses. Just have to play the waiting game now :-|

Little update. Spoke to my insurance today. According to them...they don't think hes claiming for accident repair work, but they need to confirm it still, but instead is claiming personal injury!!!! What a c**t..hes trying to take me to the cleaners..you get more whiplash on bumper cars
-
my f**kin god' date=' can you not contact the guy direct and try to settle this outside of insurance cuz if he demands that goes thru and ruins your no claims id be amased!!
There is no need for it to go through them for that amount, he's just being unreasonable. if he wont settle out of insurers id be in 2 minds to paint stripper his car and give him something to really claim for!! haha (but obv im not saying you should!!)
[/quote']
I'll pretend i didn't hear that last bit..but what are exchanging details for? Well im going to give him a ring in a couple hourse before i speak to my insurance. Ill let you guys know what he said later
thanks for the support

Personally id of told my insurance company straight away incase anything did come of it.
But as the others have said insurance company will only call it a claim IF they pay out
But when you go for insuracne theres the, have you had any claims against you question and have you been in any accidents. I wudn't be so bothered if i was 30 something with 5 years protected ncb. I know it sounds like im trying to dodge the system a bit, but if my premium goes up next year i may have to sell the car as im only an apprentice and i already fork out 250 quid petrol just to get to college each month..but its worth it.
-
what is the invoice for then and how much?? did they charge him for the inspection or something??
and no' date=' dont worry, it wont show up unless they actually pay out money to this guy on your behalf.... if no claim goes through and no money is paid nothing will show up and you will retain your no claims bonus.
[/quote']
It was 36 pounds for the inspection. We both knew there was no damage but he wanted to be sure there was no internal damage on his bumper (even though it was one of those big ugly plastic hyundai 4x4's). He seemed ok to me and came to a mutual agreement that it wudn't be taken further. I felt obliged to pay for the inspection.
cheers

my insurance sent me a letter saying a third party has reported your car being in an incident with you at fault with a claims form attached. Ive got an invoice from the garage that looked at his car, as i offered to pay.
Im going to send the forms back with a copy of the invoice as it does state no damage was found. But surely now on the big insurance system if i go for insurance in the future, it will come up that i was in an accident and that it was my fault, They don't care if any damage happened....its just a statistic to them them. Can you see where im coming from though?? This guy really is just causing aggro for me

hi guys,
I bumped someone from behind in the vr a couple of weeks back. I was only rolling off the clutch in first. Anyway no damage was sustained to my car or his from the looks of it, but he said he would take his to the garage anyway to be inspected and i offered to cover the cost. I kept in contact with the bloke ..and he said the garage couldn't see any visible damage and we'd leave it at that. yet today i get a form in the post saying a claim has been made against me and im at fault :-#. I don't know what to do now but im well gutted only being 20 and just about being able to pay the insurance with no previous claims. Even if the matter isn't taken any further and its just been reported with neither parties having sustained damage or injury..hows this going to affect me in the future as after all it was my fault. It just makes it more frustrating that it will possibly affect my insurance in the future and i don't even have a dent to show for it. Just wanted to know if anyone else has been in a similar situation or know how this one might affect me.
cheers dudes and duddets

i took my car for service couple months back at a nationwide garage and they filled it with what i'm assuming run of the mill blue coolant. I need to top it up. Can i put g12 plus plus straight in as ive heard this will mix with any coolant. thought id ask as i don't want to end up with browness in my system.
cheers

looks very nice. How much did that set you back? was there much rust on the car
-
i'd be up for this..was thinking about it this weekend whilst watching the f1 then came across this thread

had thermostat changed. Overheating stopped but was still getting a leak from the expansion tank. Replaced the cap 7 quid from vw...all sorted
-
I can confirm there are indeed two different racks. I've just had a new rack fitted to my late 96 VR6 and the garage who did the job had to go to the local VW stealer with the VIN to confirm the correct part code as they said there was no other guaranteed way to know which one was fitted.
Couldn't tell you the difference between them though.
Just out of interest...how much did you pay for a new rack to be fitted??
cheers
-
Took it to a garage today. They seem to reckon its not showing any tell tail signs of head gasket failure and reckon it could just be a thermostat. I'm not fully convinced as would you usually asociate these faults ^^^^ with a thermostat?
Anyone???

where is the leak from m8. mine went up in steam an was chucking water an steam out of the resivour ..it didnt damage the engine but endded up putting a seconhand engine in due to the cost in fixing ....got quoted nearly £900 as its a big job and the chains and guides needed replacing ...im sure some others who know more might have some other ideas as im only going off what happened to me
dj
It is coming out of just the resovoir...but i think it might be leeking out somewhere else aswell, but i guess until its on a ramp its hard to tell for sure Ive only had it less than a month but new chains, guides and clutch have been done in the last three months totalling a bill of 850. Fingers crossed the head isn't warped from the overheating and theres no internal damage i don't mind footing the bill for a headgasket but anything more and i think i could be looking at a new engine to btw were you getting water in the oil? I think there might be but not 100% Do you know the best way to tell?..theres definately no oil in the leeking coolant and im not getting mayo round the oil cap.
-
headgasket maybe. when i had a head gasket go the same used to happen within ten mins it go up in a cloud of steam lol
Was it leaking aswell as steaming? as this is what mine is doing. Didnt cause any damage to the engine did it?

Hi guys,
My car has suddenly started overheating really quick..after 10/15 mins of use from cold. If i let the temperature guage get to about 3 quarters up the car starts spewing coolant onto the road. Don't want to drive it now until i can figure out the fault. The fans kick in but this doesn't help. Im really worried now. Any help would be great
thanks,
steve
