  1. Haven't updated in ages! The last 14 months of ownership I haven't had funds to do what I want to the car. Instead just been maintaining her with everything she needs. So far in 14 months it's had:

2 services including haldex filter and oil

    New rear discs and pads

4 new Avon zv5's all round

    2 new front wishbones

    C.v boot kit.

I've had the bonnet and front bumper resprayed so no stone chips on the front and now and had the rear bumper done aswell as it had quite a bad scuff.

Just finished my apprenticeship now and have more money now, so I'm starting to buy things. Picked up a bmc this week to kick things off!

  2. Just to add i got a BDE engine which after looking on some other forums is claimed to have vvt compared to the earlier engines that were put in the 4mo that apparently wern't.

Not sure if this makes much difference in my choice of cams?

  3. Got some funds burning a hole in my pocket so thought i'd treat my 4mo to a set of cams and remap to compliment the bmc and custom exhaust i've had made.

Am I correct in thinking that the aftermarket r32 cams are the same for the 2.8 24v 4mo? Anyone know of any suppliers for the cams or had any experience with them in the 4mo? Only place i've considered so far is SP but was wondering about alternatives. Also dont fancy the hefty price tag of the schrick ones.

    Thanks

  4. Don't he look and sound different....still learning the ropes' date=' trying to be witty and not succeeding!! Much prefer our current JC....oh and will someone please tell the BBC to P**S OFF and leave him alone........It's ridiculous that he's being hounded... bloody moaners find something proper to moan about...

"But this is not the gtI and nor is it the gti 16v" "This is the new range topper..this is the VR6!!" Thats typical Clarkson...but the fact he said it has terrific handling shows he is on best behaviour as we all know the handling is pi*s poor even for an early 90's car in its standard form.

  5. I had an experience almost exactly the same. Same story. The guy was in a 4x4 merc. We didn't take the bait but we saw him again in the same car park trying to sell to someone else on a different day so as he left we followed him for a few miles to make him paranoid and to get his number plate. It got to the point where he pulled over in a farm entracne on an A road to let us pass because he knew he was being followed. Funny thing was we were in a blue 56 plate vectra.

  6. Have you thought about getting a clear wrap on the front end if it's just the protection your after?

I know someone that got this done on his mk2 and it does the job very well.

I wouldn't get a bonnet bra for any of my cars but if it looks good to you then why not? I would say looks more odd than chav but just my opinion

  7. It could be how the window sits in the clamps. I've changed a couple on my mk3, and have found that the best way is to get someone to hold the window in place as if it was closed by hand. then using the button bring the mechanism up to the window slowly until the clamps join up with the window. You may need to jigg them around a bit to make them both sit in then once you've brought them up to a point where the window is now completly seated in the clamps you can tighten them off.

This should eliminate any allignment issues. I found that if you sat the window in when the mechanism was wound down it would be way out, even if it looked ok by eye and cause the window to jam up/ struggle when it got close to the top

Also look out for rubbing against the cables on the mechanism as these can sometimes get caught.

  8. Zorsts.... I have a few... sing along now.... :D

I have some very personal views on Zorts and some very personal experiences....

I have said it before and I will say it again... LONGLIFE... it's the only way... :D Propper formed bends in the correct grade of steel. Tig welded.. silencers welded not folded and made to order with the tail pipe and sound/flow of your desire to meet your standard and non standard needs... Plus the same(-ish) price as an off the shelf. (obviously dependant upon what you spec...)

The only thing I can add is it also has the best G in the business....

I have had several and will go no where else... and no i am not on commission LOL

worth a search on youtube for some sounds examples plus I have seen a very recent R32 one.... Luuuuurvly

    EDIT....

I spent 5 and found some his preferred install photes (Page 3 i think) and a couple of his vids...

Njoy.... It has my name all over it...!!!!!! :D

Very nice pipes you got there sounds bit more burbly than other 24v's with exhausts which me likes :-d Just had a look on the website and like what I see. Did you go to your local franchise to get it done?

  9. My local Powerflow dealer makes them up to speck stainless back box for £150 or sports cat plus box for £300 all stainless 2.5 - 3 inch pipes ... better than some of the off the shelf options

Have you used your local powerflow dealer? Just want to find a happy customer that could recommend a decent fabricator.

I am liking the idea of going custom considering the milltek for a 4mo is over £500. If i could get a nice custom setup around the 350/400 mark i'd be happy with that. Not taking anything away from the milltek but it's a steep price tag that could be spent else where on the car.

I hate loud exhausts on your 1.2 corsa's etc but I had a scorpion cat back on the vr which i bought with about 200 miles use as it was too loud for the owner. I thought it sounded amazing strapped to a 2.8 v6 and i couldn't give a dam how much noise it made. Guess it's just preference though

  10. After much thought the vr is no more. After getting it resprayed last year I came to the decision that doing 12thousand miles a year in a 15 year old car was far from practical. I was so paranoid about rust I was jet washing it 2/3 times a week during the last snowy period. Here's a pic anyway

So I recently came to the decision I needed something newer and it was between a 02/03 plate wrx or a 4mo. The scooby's were nice but didn't see them as much of a challenge and too shouty to look at so I went and picked this up today with 60k on the clock :-d

Heard this mod adds atleast 10hp

Took the 4mo and v6 badges off as I like the idea of it looking like a sensible 5 door mk4. Have to admit it doesn't sound as raw as the mk3 but can't wait to start unlocking the bags of potential this car has. Got a good idea of what direction I want to take this car in. If i can stop it from looking like a lot of modified mk4's I see kicking around my way (you know the ones) I know im on the right track.
