when you say it just plugs in to one of the rear lamps what do you mean exactly?

thanks for the pictures rikki you can barely notice it. i figured out what the deal is with the bumper anyhow... the bit on the bottom is actually part of the bumper. its not even riveted on or anything its actually the bumper itself, on my model the colored part (in my case black) basically clips on over the bumper to give the appearance of a separate bottom part. so i go in ebay and buy a second hand bumper for 10 quid (wrong colour but i dont need that bit) turns out that its a slightly different style of bumper and the plastic removable bit is not actually removable! :@ so i had to put

hi all, i have a mk3 vr6 with the original BBS alloys (15inch) which are very very VERY hard to clean. (you should be able to make out the wheels by my profile pic) anyone got any good tips on getting them clean really easily. i tried a pressure washer but it doesn't get the dirt off. and wonder wheels works but it takes ages! cheers,

cool, do you know whats involved in the fitting process or how much i could reasonably expect to pay someone to fit it?

bad tyre noise from the rear.
mck684 replied to mck684's topic in Wheels, Brakes, Suspension and Steering
well ive found out what the problem was. just as i suspected it was one of the tyres. first i took of one of the rear wheels and put on the spare, drove it down the road. no difference. took of the other rear wheel and put on the spare. drove it down the road and hey presto the noise has gone! it turns out that the nearside AVON tyre is misshapen and making the whining noise. it also turns out that both the rear tyres have nails in them! needless to say they are both getting replaced with dunlop sport sp01 to match the front. problem solved! thanks for all the posts on this topic. -
bad tyre noise from the rear.

hi, yeah i have the space saver spare. i think i will try that at the weekend. the wheels dont feel unbalanced, they dont judder or anything. its just the noise like a wheel bearing but im so convinced its the tyres as i had the exact same problem on my gti (exactly the same noise) and i just thought it was to much of a coincidence that its on same type of car, on the back wheels again. was trying to get a load of people with this problem so we can all take our 15 year old vr6's back to vw and complain that its the cars wheel alignment or something!!!! |-) -
im losing about 1 litre a week. i think it may be actually coming from the bottle itself. i am testing this by wiping it clean and seeing if the pink coolant/water comes back. just discovered the bloody fuel pump is pi**ng out fuel as well now! well more of a fast drip really. took it to the garage asap this morn to get sorted.
-
im not sure its related though as i only get water in the carpets when it rains suggesting that it is the rain water and not the coolant.
-
yes it is losing coolant! i was wondering where it was going as i couldn't see a leak? surely its not the engine coolant that leaks in to my car interior?

hi all, i have a black mk3 vr6 3dr. i think it would look pretty neat to darken the rear windows a bit, especially as its a black car. anyone got any pics of a black vr/gti 3 dr (h) with the rears tinted? how bout the actual tints themselves? anyone know of an easy to use self adhesive product thats cheap? cheers. ian.

any chance you could get that piccy for me mate, id love to see how it looks before i do the same, cant wait to get rid of the towbar!!!
-
hi, not quite sure if this is the right section for this post so apologies if its the wrong one! i have a leak in my vr6 golf that happens when it rains even when the car is stationary. this leads me to believe that it is the sunroof drain pipes being disconnected or something. either that or the windscreen surround seal as its looking like it has seen better days so maybe that could be the cause. i have heard that the heater matrix could cause a leak? could someone explain to me what the matrix does and how it could be involved in soaking my interior carpets! many thanks. ian. :-d

Got any pics of yours mate, i cant quite picture it!

hi, anyone know if blue leather interior exists for the mk3 golf. id love to put in a highline leather trim in my vr but i have the blueish style plastics in there and the black might not match very well.

bad tyre noise from the rear.

no its definately tyre noise. i did originally take it to a gararge for wheel bearing noise but it wasnt that. its exactly the same noise as i had before when the new tyres fixed the problem. just wondering if anyone else had the problem? -
hi all, i own a golf mk3 vr6. when i bought the car it unfortunately had odd tyre brands on the back. one side is continental eco contact and one side is avon az1, the fronts are matching dunners sport sp1. all the tyres are almost brand new. there is a pronounced whining noise coming from the rear wheels that rises and falls depending on how fast that you go. im pretty certain that it is a mishapen tyre as i had the exact same problem on my old mk3 gti 8v. as soon as i replaced the rear tyres the noise dissapeared! its definately the same noise so im guessing its the same problem. im wonderi

ah right thats one way of doing it! did it look ok? did you put the bit in flush so its smooth or stick it over the top? i might consider trying to get hold of the black bit of trim from a breaking car and try and attach it on to the bottom of the bumper. hope it wont be to difficault. you dont happen to have a picture of the bumper repair you did do you? :^)
-
yes thats the bit i mean...thanks.

hi all, i have a 93 k vr6 3 dr in black i havent had it long. when i bought it it had a towbar fitted (this was a factory fit from a vw dealer its all in the service history). i hate the look of the towbar and want to remove it. however, the guys at vw have actually cut a hole through the black plastic 'skirt' on the bottom of the bumper to poke it through. is the black plastic 'skirt' or piece of trim at the very bottom of the rear bumper actually part of the the bumper? or is it separate. i had a look but couldn't really see this very well. also does anyone have any advice on removing

just bought i vr6 golf 93'. brilliant fun. much better than the 2 previous golf gtis i have had. thing is the noise is awesome but somewhat silenced dont you think? i want a stainless cat back system, that sounds lovely when you boot it but not too noisy on the motorway, any suggestions? oh and not too expensive please! thanks!

hi, i have a problem where my drivers side electric window on my 93 vr6 wont go up fully in one go. you press the up button and it gos up 3 inches. then you need to press it again and it gos up another 3 inches and so on untill you reach the top. this is causing a problem as i just bought the car and it has a full closure alarm and the driver window is the only one that wont do up properly. has anyone got an idea as to what this could be? thank you...

The best free antivirus is Avira antivir, it has the highest detection rate of any, and windows firewall is perfectly adequate, so switch that on. a good antispyware is adaware (free) and a brilliant little program for removing malware/spyware is malwarebytes antimalware. i work in i.t and these are among the best and all free. good luck.

hi, i haven't even picked up my new golf vr6 (i saw 'new' more like k reg) yet. it was so gorgeous and original i had to buy it, and i choose to take a 'calculated' risk when doing so as the temperature needle is stuck all the way over to the right (in the highest temp reading zone) even when the engine is cold. its obviously bust. any ideas as to what i could be looking at as a repair. e.g is this a common problem, and more importantly is there a common solution. ideas as to the different things that could cause this would be helpfull. cant wait to get it! ian.
