    did you ever get to the bottom of this as i have similar symptoms but i have now replaced th ecu relay, crank and cam shaft sensors, new leads, and plugs, to now luck ?

    would the lamda cause it not to start, changed cam and crank sensor, cleaned MAF and ISV and throttle body, battery checked, but when i try starting my vr it over fuels and i think its flooding as you can smell fuel in engine bay, and if it does start plenty out the exhaust? any andvice

    I have a 95 vr and it was running brilliantly until i took it on a long drive over 250 miles which it has done before without a problem, almost got home to refuel when it died and wouldnt restart, wouldnt jump start either, after a few hours started and then nothing for a while. It cranls over like normal the bites then sounds like its shutting itself down/or floods and dies. have had crank & cam sensor changed as per advive and nothing, have cleaned the plugs as they were filthy and checked and cleaned the leads with no luck. when it did start it was running very rich and you could smell

    craggsy - cheers anyways dude gavinvr6 - yes as in petersfield, hampshire i think you may just be a little too far also, i would bring it to you but i can get it running so cant get it anywhere at present !

    i'm having real problems with my vr6 and was wondering if anyone local to me had a vagcom i could try as i dont want to start replacing parts willy nilly, it works every now and again but i dont feel confident enough to take it off the drive to take it to a garage (skint at mo) if anyone can help much appreciated !

    yeah runs fine, idles high for a about 5 mins - which is not normal but then drops to 750 i will have a look at it properly later and let you know what i find - cheers for this

    its cranks ok is what i also forget to add - sounds like standard start and used to start first time every time in about a second

    it cranks to the point of firing then just dies but it does eventually start, other people have suggested coolant/cooling sensor as it not firing so could be fuel starved due to no auto choke not kicking in but it will happily idle once going

    on the way back from a long journey with no problems, i pulled into a petrol station - when i went to start it it started then died straight away, it wouldnt start after 5 starts so got my bro to come get me, it wouldnt jump off a 4x4 got it home and tried again and nothing, had it charging for a while and after a few attempts it started then died - did this a few times and it was running again. but each time i go back to it it does the same - is this the battery as a cheap vagcom read supply voltage can anyone help !

    what has actually gone, if you get nothing from the 1-4 dial then you need to replace the resitor next to the motor think its about £25 from places like german swedish french, thats what went on mine, can also get from mark 3 polo at breakers yards
