  1. im not much help but had a prob with mine for a while last month, i was lead to believe the blue 2 pin sensor was the one which told the ecu the temp of the engine, the other does the gauge on the dash and im not sure what the other does, i changed mine and it made no difference to my prob as mine turned out to be the maf sensor that was giving me probs...
  2. well , it ran crap after posting this... so i left it for a couple of weeks and brought a rover 220 diesle bubble car for work... lol... had lamba turn up. and temp sensor, and then a maf ( lamba 99p , temp sensor £7.65 , maf £15 ) lol... fittedn temp sensor 1st and still same froma cold start, then fitted Maf and it was instant, started, ticked over etc.now runs 100% better, sold the rover and made £100 too, , seems to be doing about 300 miles to £50 worth of fuel, cat smells a bit so will get the lamba swapped also and see if that makes any diffo to smell and any more miles to £50 wort
  3. sounds like your havin similar probs to me sticks!! , had a misfire prob, replaced coilpack etc and that cured that, mines doing about 9mpg and overfueling like a mo fo... temp sensor and lamba are my 1st change then maf....
  4. new coil pack arrived, fitted it and she fired up straight away, did a 30 odd mile run and seemed ok if a bit lumpy at tickover (will put new plugs in tomorrow and my newest set of leads again), cleaned exhaust before hand as was black from problems, now black again so either its burning /blowing the crap outta the cat/system or its got a fueling problem (maf/lamba/temp switch) as well... at least it will get me to work now, will do some bits tomorrow then run it for the week then take it to garage to see if any fault codes etc... at least its running and quick again!!
  5. im not fussed about swanky ones... lol, im just going to try to get a cheaper alternative to run on my vr6 as its a joke for even 2nd hand prices .... and the person ive brought my coilpack from didnt send it special delivery as i asked as i havent received it today like i should have... car sat in an undriveable state if it aint here tomorrow then its scrapyard hunting as i need it running for new job on monday ...... heres hoping
  6. just been on that vwvortex site and i think ive sussed it all now... i was right about it firing two at the same time 'wasted spark' as they put it.... also sussed this 'icm' ignition control module which is part of the coil pack but re useable if ok, so i think im going to try and convert my existing 'icm' to using another 6 cylinder coil pack cough cough (vauxcrap) which is like £10 on ebay... which is a damn site cheaper that what ive even paid for a 2nd hand coil pack.... will post what comes of my experiments with my old coilpack/icm once my new one is on the car so i can use it again!!
  7. me coil pack has gone tits up and am waiting for a replacement to be delivered, ive stripped mine right down and it seems the the unit with in the pack (theres 3 twin coil units) thats nearest the radiator thats failed as im getting no spark on cylinder 6 and 1 (makes no difference with leads on or off.. lol) , the car will run on the remaining 4 cylinders but starts dying every now and then on 4 / 3 so im assuming that that coil pack is starting to break down also when the engine warms up, now my question is seen as cylinders 6/1 , 4/3 , 2/5 are running off the individual units that they are
  8. well tried a maf, made no difference, tried a mates coilpack and bingo was running smooth on all 6 cylinders, have just got one thats being delivered hopefully thursday.... im going to disconnect my battery once the car is parked up later tonight to clear ecu etc, then hopefully when new pack arrives she should be back to normal...its cylinders 6 and one that aint firing, and there run off the part of the coilpack nearest the radiator, surely theres got to be a better cheaper way of sorting these coilpacks as there onl;y 3 twin units in a case!!
  9. will let you know tomorrow evening mate, ive got a friend 10 miles away who has a highline so im going to try his maf then coil pack to see if either of them cures the problem, if they do then i know what i have to buy, no spare cash at mo to be buying 'it could be this' items!!
  10. i think most testers will let it go through if you can get it to run at the level of emissions it would put out with the cat on??? well thats whats happened to a few peeps i know
  11. nah i had to drive 15 miles to get them to see what faults, i havent been back yet, as i suspected i popped out half hour ago, ran fine for 5 mins then when off a couple of cylinders again..... ive got a blue temp switch on the way and gonna sort a lamba sensor , then it will be maf and coil pack... in otherwords very flippin expensive,,, not happy...
  12. one other thing i noticed this morning , the car has always heated up quickly a couple of mins running and warm air through vents etc, now this is still the same but the temp guage is taking a good 10 mins of running before it gets upto the 90 degree mark on the dash, ive read somewhere about temp senders failing and causing severe over fueling and stuff cause the ecu thinks the engine is still stone cold and fuels accordingly???? craggsy, ive cleaned the maf with solent spray in case it was dirty etc, if i goto my local independant vw people and get them to clear all fault codes then run it
  13. howdy folks, on my 3rd vr6 now, all has been well till a week ago, had a slight splutter for a few seconds on the way home from work, then all seemed well, then when i started the car 4 days later it ran like a bag o crap!! wont tick over, coughing / spluttering etc, now ive used the search function and read loads on here (as i had a similar probs with my 92 vr6 a few years ago) , i put new leads and plugs in 2 months ago, theyve been fine, i removed the plugs to see what there like and they are so black and choked up im supprised they worked at all, so i put my old plugs back in and it ran th
  14. right im pretty sure i had 195/40/17's stretched on my bbs rs2's on my old show car, come across some 17" wheels and tyres i might fancy for the latest sensible vr6 ive got, the tyres are 215/40/17.. would i get away with these on a 17" rim with a 35 offset and the car is lowered around 50-60mm all round??
  15. deffo nothing rubbing, have double checked that, i will try giving it a nip up 1st as there is a teeny bit of play, will probably still be noisey after, ony £17 for a new bearing from eurocarparts and will use the press at work thanks for the info on the socket, i might have a 12 point rather than my 6 poin one at work too so ill check...
  16. front left wheel bearing has developed a slight rumble since lowering the car last week, slight bit if play so was going to nip it up and see if it quietens down, but i couldnt, my 30mm impact socket that i used on my mk2 gtis' etc dont fit, it seems as though its a big multipoint socted needed?? any ideas what size please, glad i didnt buy a bearing yesterday and think about doin it today!!
  17. just come back to a vr after a year off..... yeah there thirsty, but for me its like a breath of fresh air , the jeep cherokee i brought to tow my jetski was killing me in fuel costs!!! lol
  18. got it on, wasnt too bad really... no blood or skin anywhere... lol... gonna refit it again on sunday as need to trim the rear bumper trim a tad as getting a slight vibration when pulling off , other than that it looks and sounds better than the original down swept pee shooters!!
  19. my old track car from november 2006 a k plate vr , stripped bare with buckets and harnesses , lowered on spax shocks and springs and a k+n cone, that was it , and never under estimate or doubt what they can do on a track..... they will give you a massive smile and cause unhappy looks on alot newer more expensive cars on the track too!!!
  20. cheers folks, will be taking the skin off my knuckles in the next few hours... haha
  21. right my last 2 vr6's have had performance ssystems on when i got them (my ebay bargin and then my old show car), now after nearly a year of not owning a vr ive just gone and got another... anyways just got a powerflow stainless rear silencer, jack the car up tonight to size it up ready for fitting tomorrow to find a right pain in the rear end... it seems my vr6 (old pensioner low mileage car) has what i would describe as the original factory fit exhaust as it seems to be one piece?? well the back box is connected to the middlebox,(no join , so surely it must be fitted with rear beam out of th
  22. for me at my local vw specialist its oil/filter spark plugs pollen filter fuel filter brake fluid change coolant change whole car checked very much the same as above and anything thats not 100% is pointed out so you are aware.... had all the above done for £210 all in inc vat etc at louth volks world , would have like to have had the book stamped but seen as it went missin with the previous owner i have to make do with nice printed reciepts etc.... lol
  23. went to this and it was a good old giggle, nice to do some vw driving in a group besides all just lookin at em still.... pics / videos etc are here http://s4.forumspring.com/dublinc/viewtopic.php?t=1008&mforum=dublinc and dont worry you dont have to sign up to see them!! a vr6 probably wasnt the most economical car to do it in but if was the most fun.... chuffed with how well it goes, when we got lost i had a play on a few bits of dual carrige waywitha 06 plate ford focus st from a 1st/2nd gear rollin start... i couldnt get past him cause he was in front of me but i was on his bumper and
