  1. I have a VF 9 with a gruven parts 8 psi pulley and aircon. I need to check the length as i purchased 2 from VF earlier this year and they are the wrong size, they offered to sell me some more, but would not confirm the length, so i didn't bother.

In the end i made some belts up myself, but would prefer a proper belt

  2. Thanks, i did think about going direct origianlly, but rumours of the price put me off......

Had no option no and am speaking to them, looking like £75 each plus fees, plus tax, plus shipping and then finally import taxes

  3. Think things have got a little out of hand on this build now... It's only a cheap daily!!!

Think I have finally found an engine builder who is free before Christmas, and he's local, so spending more money tomorrow on new Pistons oem 2.9 spec as vw don't do them anymore!!! Discounted wossners as they just up to my build.... Though I have just purchased some for a different build...

Also more purchases in last few weeks

Any guesses on what they are?? Let's just say they need refinishing, but will look great once done

  4. Well finally got some more time on the car today :-)

So engine was only loosely in the car, so wipped it out leaving a hole

But that was the easy part!!!

Time to break it down and see the damage

Let's remove all the ancillaries, found loads of damaged bolts, poor paint over things and bolts. Previous owner who removed the engine had really messed things up.

Head, not too bad, slight heat problems on 4 cylinders but not that bad

Block, doesn't look too bad, actually minimal wear

    Closer inspection

No lip but plenty of bore wash, as suspected. Spark plug did confirm too.

So new piston rings, might as well see about balancing the engine too whilst it's all apart. Hopefully the box and flywheel are off to hotgolf for some work :-)

Think the reason is poor setup of the charger, maf between charger and TB, never good, and also a bit of damage to the wiring to the blue temp sensor. Both will need looking at. Thankfully the charger is ok.

So with that in mind thought it best to try some new shoes on her

Not sure which ones to go for, do have some other refurbished dailies waiting

  5. I believe all you need is the pistons and rings. Not too sure on cost but will know more next week.

Good thing is you will have a fresh block and fresh piston rings over an old and possibly tired 2.9 bottom end, which you might not find out how bad till it's rebuilt, or will need a hone and oversized piston rings, which will be around the same price as the overbore

  6. Well more progress this week on the car. Engine is ready to come out now, just need to remove the hydraulic clutch cable now and the engine is ready to dismantle on the stand, should see how bad it is then.

Been pricing up wossners for it but they are a little out of this daily budget build, think if the pistons are dead, will get it bored to 2.9 using corrado pistons and see how it goes.

On removing the exhaust found this interesting cat?

Exhaust was leaking just after this on the poor join, another bodged bit of work by the previous owner

Hopefully next week engine out and broken and then off  to the machine shop, hoping he can fit me in

  7. Right I am in the process of removing my engine for a rebuild and most things are coming apart, however I can't get the main engine wiring loom apart, it's the large round connector that sits on the top right hand side of the engine, by the coilpack.

Other connectors like this have just twisted apart, is this different or is there a knack to it?

    Thanks
