  1. Heat Unit arrived yesterday! Even with my huge level of incompetence i had it fitted very quickly. I had to remove the glove box under the airbag to pull the jungle of wires back enough to get the stereo in the slot, but other than that it was really simple. The sony Changer didn't work, what a suprise! But i did manage to work out how to make MP3 discs, so i'm happy!
  2. My new Head Unit has got MP3 and WMA capability. I had forgotten that. Maybe i could live without a changer after all! Or with a changer and MP3 i could have pretty much all the music i could ever need ready to go all the time. I'm off to play with my cd burner............

    Damp air from AC

The smell is caused by bacteria building up on the condensor i think. One fairly good way off cleaning the system is too run the heater on full blast (a/c off) for 20 minutes then run the a/c on full for 20 minutes then full heat with a/c off for another 20 minutes. Should kill most of the bacteria but you need to be running for an hour and it's not the most comfortable thing to do in summer!! After that use full blast a/c on a longish run every month at the very least. The quickest and most effective way is to seek advice from an a/c service company, this is also the pricey way.
  4. I don't mind paying for something thats top quality, which is why i went for Alpine. Just hoped to use the sony one for a bit longer to ease costs. I will probably sell the sony changer and offset about 1 fifth of the cost of the new one!!!
  5. Obviously i'm going to plug it in and try whatever! but it looks unlikely. Oh well, looks like i may have to splash out more on an Alpine changer. Which seem quite expensive. The sony one was half the price of the equivilent alpine. I hope Alpine's reputation for quality is deserved!
  6. I just bought a nice new Alpine Head Unit, should be delivered tomorrow with luck. I have a fairly new Sony 10 disc changer that replaced the ageing original gold sony affair. Will this changer be compatible with the new Alpine Head Unit?
  7. Next question? Turn the wipers to intermitant - pull stalk down. Turn back to off, wait desired time and then turn back to intermitant. The time the wipers were off in the middle will be the new interval. works from 1 to 20 seconds and resets to about 7 when the ignition is turned off.
  8. Also the trip computer has some hidden things like a digital rev counter. Turn the ignition on Hold down the button that switches between total miles and trip display (opposite the clock adjustment buttons) keep holding it down and turn the igntion off then still holding the button down start the engine. The display should change and by pressing the same button you can scroll through about 9 things. Quite pointless but interesting. I think this may be similar to the way in which the service interval indicator is reset/changed.
  9. Trip no. 1 shows data from when you start the engine (it resets after 2 hours of the ignition being turned off) Trip no. 2 shows data from the last reset no matter what.
  10. The front seats in my old renault 19 16 executive were nice enough for me to take out and have made into chairs after i crashed it! Now got two damn comfy black leather chairs with nice stainless steel frames. Thank god for friends who do furniture design and construction courses at uni! On subject, i thing a fair bit of welding would be required to get your renault seats into a golf. Renaul mount seats in a retarded french way.
  11. my gti and my vr6 both had rust around the hole where the arm goes into the body between the back door hinges. Seen many others with this problem. It's hard to spot unless you look for it. Luckily i knew about it from the gti and got it soretd before i paid for the VR6. Costs about £70 - 80 per door to put right.
  12. I've got a highline too, after owning a mk 3 gti 16v. Build quality seems similar to me. The Highline is finished in nicer plastics though, for example the soft leather type stuff under the window instead of the hard plastic. Maybe you were unlucky witht he gti.
  13. Had loads of small scratches, dull patches and stone chips on the whole length of the drivers side. I was suprised by how many came out with T-Cut metallic restorer and a good AutoGlym polishing. Looks very presentable now. Front BBS Solitudes in very poor conition though. Any one got any refurbisher recomendations?
  14. could this be the rear axle bushes wearing out? i hear if they get too bad they allow the rear wheels to steer a bit.
  15. I was interested in buying a VTR a couple of years back. I drove one at a citroen garage. It was pretty rubbish really. I looked around at the interior from where i was perched on my gaudy yellow and black patterned seat and though, "no way can i buy this car". I only drove it a little so i can't really comment on performance but i was very dissapointed with the whole thing. Mind you i did buy a renault 19 16v instead, so my taste and knowledge was not that great back then....

no, west sussex!! Every garage i've seen today has normal unleaded for over 81p. It's outrageous.

What's going on with these?! I put some optimax in yesterday and paid 87.9p per litre! If this carries on i might buy a diesel [ Edited ]
  18. 21 with no ncb, 1 small fault claim in last 2 years, fully comp, standard car, £1050 with elephant.
  19. no problem, i didn't notice your post was so long ago! How is the toad? I need a cat 1 alarm asap, i bough my vr6 from vw and the aftermarket cat 1 in it had a fault so they took it out and just reconnected the vw immobiliser! I miss remote locking and total closure. I was looking at a clifford because for an extra £140 you can add a remote engine start doo daa. Which is pretty useless but quite cool.
  20. I had a Laserline 996 v2 on my gti 16v and it was really good. Never had a problem and it was very easy to use. However it looks like yours was not so reliable! I have seen laserlines offered with lifetime guarantees though. I know a few of people who are very impressed with their Clifford Concept 300.
